When I cast for finger mullet I sometimes get 4-8" mullet. Anything special I can fish for in the surf with these instead of throwing them back? How would I rig it up?

id use it as cut bait for bull reds,, rigging it on a circle hook or hook or your choice,, ive had luck using cut mullet around that size for cutbait

i use them for cut bait, i have had the best catches with the head.

Yeah you use the head and make sure you bash it, that will make it real juicy.

I have used up to 5 inch mullet whole and live to catch bull reds on. I always though they were too big until my friend proved me wrong. I coudlnt' believe it.

mmmmmm juicy lol, srry im on some real gd pain killers right now for my back pain,, i have never ever thought about using the head tho,, i dunno if u read the post i made about pine gully but this guy used a fish head and like 5 minutes later hes pullin up a 46 in bullred, i was stunned

Bigger bait, bigger fish!!!

Yeah fishlady, I saw a video of a guy that had a big speckled trout on his line while wade fishing. And then he lost it wondering what happened as he had actually hooked about a 15 inch speckled trout !!!

The big trout on his line had the 15 inch trout in his mouth !!! And while he was reeling it in the big trout let go of it and the guy was like HOLY SHEEEEEET !! DID YOU SEE THAT !!

It was huge trout and it had a good sized 15 inch trout in it's mouth.

I've fished big 5 inch Super Spook topwaters and caught little 10-12 inch trout on them before where the lure is about half their size !! Trout can be very opportunistic and aggresize and when they feed they don't know when to stop and can have a belly and mouth full of fish already when you catch them.

Just be sure to release mullet over 12". Not legal to keep until February since this is their spawning time. More eggs mean more mullet!!
I actually like to catch BIG mullet, scale them, fillet them and SALT them and vacuum pack them for future use as cut bait. Lasts forever in the freezer or the refrigerator. Try it!!
