Probably not as unique as a smart A$$ belittling someone trying to do something for themselves instead of spending twice the money.

By the way what are the loop dealys made from. Understand you got them at H>D> but what are they used for when not making killer rod holders.

Look like D-Rings to me KC........ Good idea but if you payin full bump for them CB Antenna mounts that gona get expensive. I bet you could go to a Semi or Commercial Vehicle salvage yard and FLAT LOAD up on them things for little to nothin..............

What about the time and gas spent gathering the parts....not everyone just has CB antenna mounts and D-Rings laying around not to mention the time to assemble.

Real quick that savings starts to become zilch.

Now....if you want to make something just for the sake of making something then by all means go for it.

i'm sorry if i affended anyone. i made these for myself and they work for me. i would never tell anyone that they had to make these , but just wanted to show what i did. it's getting harder and harder to want to stay on the tff. it could really help people learn some new things. but it get pretty discourging that people are constanly telling other that they are wrong . it's not just in the catfishing but in all the catogories it's this way. as far as the beeready fans, i didn't tell anyone not to buy your product and i've never used them to even see if they work. i've heard great things about them. i would just rather make my own stuff instead of ordering them from you, or your uncle or you dad or whoever you are trying to turn this forum into a commerical for.

I don't think anyone was offended and I think the OP made excellent use of materials he had laying around.

However, its also true that there are products out there that are mass produced for holding rods and the actual cost difference is negligible.

To each their own.

To the OP...figure out a way to call those catfish with the CB radio and then you'll have something. LOL

Well, I've just wanted to thank Tall Tale for remembering that I have a bass boat and have been looking for a decent, yet semi-classy way to get some rod holders on my bass boat. I have found some awesome ones that would mount onto my rod cleats, but I'm planning on a worst case scenario using at least 3 anchors that would keep me as stable as possible in higher winds. In the end, I had opted to buy a bass boat and wish that I had investing in a center console instead. As it turns out, Mr. Cliff Hill turned me on to some ideas. I've ordered some dual rod holders with a really high stem from this guy off of Ebay. He sells the normal style rod holders, but he also sells the same holders uncoated...and they cost less. Big Country Hill showed me the rod bases and I have a decent setup that should come this week. I appreciate any and all inputs. Seeing people come up with their own ideas and set ups is just as interesting to me as a fish story. I'm a nerd about fishing, and there are just so many different variables that work out there for everyone. If Toadkiller had an idea that he put into motion and he thought he would share it, I believe that's the true nature and spirit of this forum. In the end, it's all about sharing stories and trying to help others rip some lips. Keep in mind, it's us against the kitties! Thanks, Tall Tale for looking out for me, and thanks Toadkiller for offering your idea. Much appreciated and tight lines to all!

They come with a rail mount, but if you want the base and the pedistal they are an extra $15.00, I started out with railmounts for the front and pedistals for the back, but I went back and got the risers for the front, they work great either way! He will give you clamps that fit through the holes in the bar, and they mount right to your rail! If you are wondering about the pool noodle on that riser, I used to have another rod holder, but I didn't have the screw in the bottom of it, and picked up my trolling motor and it went in the water!!!

Ed doesn't advertize the old style other than the 1 rod holders, but I don't know why!!!

it cost more to build these than a bee ready for the average person. the clamps are $10 a piece from theearlier post and the rings are $4 and a bolt and nut+ tax for you are looking at $45 for a 3 pole setup . where a bee ready 3 is $19 and the round rail mounts are $7 no tax so you got $26 invested in a 3 pole rig. if you got Home depot and buy a ground clamp that is what a round rail pretty much is it would only cost $23. for the setup.

ed sells them and the owner is out of OK. Rick no longer deals with retail so Ed is about your only option for beereadys other than shows that rick and his brother do. some stores in the area have them but ed supply's them. ed does not advertise becuase that is the old style and no longer in production.once its gone thats it. even though it is a great holder it is not as good as the all-new SS & ALUMINUM designs. i use beereadys and have for 7 years now, i will not use another rod holder and yes i am on bee readys pro staff.

but i can understand saving $$ if you already have materials. i can understand the enjoyment of building something yourself and when its completed and a sucessful project it is then the simple fact that you did it makes it priceless. i see some bashing on the mans project and thnk its un called for. .02

I have always liked to improvise, invent, test, research, experiment, modify, upgrade, etc. all manner of things that I use and methods of doing various tasks.

It is no wonder that I have rod holders that cost multiples of what I could buy them for...but at the same time I have other rod holders that cost practically nothing due to "scrounged" materials.

One for instance, the school maintenance sold a lot of half inch solid aluminum rods...4 foot long. I got 8 of them for a dollar each.

I put a piece of CV pipe on them with radiator clamps and VOILA!! The best bank rod holders I have at the present.

I have worked out several designs and tested them on my Jon Boat but am not satisfied yet. I will keep working!

You definately need some rod-holders on there, I had some that I took off my boat when I got the Bee Readys, but I gave them to my nephew, if I still had them I would give them to you!!!

I also gave him 4 rod n reels, I wish I had them back now, but I done gave them to him!!!

Hey Guys, thanks for the info on the BeeReadys. I called Ed and told him i was loking for some single and double rod holders for my 1 1/4 inch pontoon rails and he knew exactly what I needed. Even is sending me an extra length bolt so I can get the holders on right. With shipping and handling it was just under a hundred dollars for 6 rod holders but it sure beats sticking the Abu and Ugly stick under the pedestals seats, especially when a 10 lb striper on Texoma hits!!!!!!! No more lost rods!
