Does anyone who is on Conroe very much ever have any luck on top water? Im heading out there next week and was just wondering if it's worth my time to throw a top water for a while!

Black buzzbait. I caught three running it around several docks Tuesday on the lower end. All were caught with high skies between 11:00 and 1:00pm.

Unfortunately, I have never caught a single fish on topwater on Conroe. To me there just isn't any traditional topwater areas on Conroe. Obviusly, Bassman1 has has more luck in one day than I have had in 3 years on Conroe. Good for him.

Having no grass has taken the topwater bite to next to nothing. The frog bite was awesome when there was grass in the lake.

The docks I have been fishing are located off the sides of points with deeper water up against them and all have some sort of brush up under them. I have located a few that have a channel running parrallel about 10 feet out from them. These have been the best producers. They are absolutely covered up with baitfish.

The bright sun seems to drive them up under the docks. On the overcast days the fish are scattered and I have been catching those with traps and jigs. Fish the traps off the edge of the drops and I am pitching the jigs up on the top of the ridge and just droping it off the sides into the brushtops. I am fishing 3/8oz jigs in brown with a Zoom Creepy Crawler Trailer in either P,B, J, or Green Pumpkin with purple flakes.

As far as the buzzbait goes just make sure you have a chop on the surface. Actually all you have to do is fish wind blown points and wind blown rock and you will get bit. You just have to commit to it and keep throwing it.

Hope this helps.

Jack

My black buzz bait has been working so well its now grey colored... as in no more paint!

Actually need to buy a new one the R bend in the wire is getting weak.

I found that if I am getting short strikes on it, to slow it down so that it runs about 6"s below surface, and they nail it HARD!
I also put a small black twin tail grub on it as a trailer.

Its become one of my Go to lures at dusk and just after dark.

Maybe a little late - but I always have good luck with a Pop-R on the dam or along the rip rap off 1097...throw to the rocks and pop it back about 10 feet, and just repeat. They'll find it!
