Fished Ray Roberts today. My grandkids wanted me to get enough crappie for a fish fry. I caught a few, but the way it was going it was going to be skimpy appetizers. I ran across a Lund boat and asked if he was Guy Skinner. It was. We ended up fishing a brush pile together. Guy and his friend Adam ended up giving me some nice crappie from there live well plus the ones they caught while we fished together. I also got some pointers on jig fishing. Thanks Guy and Adam. I enjoyed meeting you.

Nice catch guys. Guy, Cliff told me you found his "grande finale" hole Yesterday it wasn't so 'grand' or 'final'. Looked to me as though someone had drug an anchor thru it...and I couldn't catch a fish off it.

Great slabs! I have an etiquette question though:
When I grew up if someone was fishing a spot, you kept your distance and found your own fishin' hole. To crowd someone (especially a guide trying to make a living) was not only rude but a sure sign of a poor fisherman.
I'm not trying to stir anything up really, but have things changed? I bring this up not just because of this post, but it seems at least once a trip, I have some fisherman cruise right up on me (clearly checking to see if I'm catching anything) while I'm fishing, then if I say something they get mad at ME?
Like I said, if the rules have changed, I'll try to calm down, but to me that's like eating off someone elses plate.

Folks, this has got to get squelched about hording in on another fisherman and eating off someone else’s plate. I could not believe the comment, but after rereading my post, I understand why it can be misinterpreted. Here is what happened.
I was fishing a COE brush pile when Guy came by me. We exchanged pleasantries as many fishermen do on a lake. Guy was not close enough to interfere with my fishing but close enough for conversation. I ask if he was Guy Skinner, because I had seen his post, and knew he had a Lund boat. I asked him to come over and fish the brush pile. He said he did not want to come in on me, but I welcomed the idea of seeing a good crappie fisherman in action. We had what I consider a very cordial visit on the lake.
As for the crappie he gave me, he asked if I was keeping fish. He made the offer before I mentioned I was trying to get some crappie for a fish fry for the grandkids.
I made the original post to tell what a great person Guy is and to thank him.

I stand corrected on the order but all in all it was a good thing and not a bad one.

Ahh, let me jump in here. No one horded in on anyone. Herb was nice enough to recognize me and wanted to talk. He was there first. It was a VERY cordial conversation of which I and Adam was greatful to have had with such a nice gentleman. And Herb, if you ever see me on a brushpile, please be sure to stop and say HI.

Herb, Thank you for inviting us to join you, it is always fun to fish with and meet new people on the lake. Maybe next time we can meet your grandchildren.
Guy, Thanks for helping me learn about the "ellusive crappie". You really should think about keeping a journal and writing a book of fishing/comedy stories. I feel that perhaps I might have provided the first couple chapters during this trip to the lake. I'm having a good laugh thinking about it! Fishing rods, fishing line, the guy at the ramp with his keys locked in his car (with his boat trailer in the water blocking a double ramp), the dozens of jigs I lost, the fish I lost, the fish I missed, and on and on and on...It was just one of those "off days" that end up being funny. Guy had his work cut out for him that day, but just like everytime I've fished with him- He found the "bigguns"! Thanks again.
Mr. Ernest, It was nice to see you on LL the other day. I wish you and your friend could have stayed longer.

Making a good friend will trump every crappie in that lake. If somebody coming over and fishing with you is going to keep you from getting your share, then they arent biting that great anyway right? I try to make friends, and SHARE information. By sharing information, techniques, ect as a group, its much easier to keep tabs on where the crappie are, when and what they are biting on. Try it. you will find it can save you from many unproductive trips. If your buddy (Joe Blow) , goes fishing for 6 hours at the same lake you usually go to, and catches 2 fish in 8 hours, chances are, you arent going to go limit out that day. The lakes can also be very dangerous, so the more fisherman friends you have, the more safe and secure you can feel being out there. Be happy and appreciative that you are able and have the means to be out on the lake. Not everybody can be out there.

Nice fish for sure. If the forecast for wind is not bad this weekend, definately heading to RR. My freezer is getting low on those fillets.
