We noticed while fishing yesterday that lots of fishermen had a spring-type tool which holds the flounder's mouth open (for hook removal, etc) and wanted to know what they are and where to get them. It appeared to be made of spring steel, but we don't know the name of it.

It's called a mouth spreader made by Baker.Academy no longer sells them.I had to buy mine at Fishing Tackle Unlimited for 2.29 plus tax.

just make sure when you use it, hold down the fishs gill and then put the spreader in the mouth then open it..now the fish will flop around just make sure the spreader is in good otherwise you will have to do it again, sometimes they keep their mouth shut tight.
