I don't think any of the guys will answer you they do not like killing them! I don't think many of us mind using small carp (10 pounds or less) for bait or food. We just don't like it when people kill big fish either out of spite or simply for fun.

You might try asking some bow "fishermen"
Some won't admit it, but I know a lot of them don't keep any carp they shoot.

I don't think any of the guys will answer you they do not like killing them! its not that we dont mind killing but when you kill for the sake of killing (bloodsport)thats when its a problem. i dont have a problem with giving away carp under 10lbs, its the begger one i wanna se returned back to we can catch them again.

I have a suggestion for you that should turn some results if you are willing to do a little phone coordinating: Go to some of the bow fishing web sites and make a contact with someone near you, then either go with them some time or ask them to save some of their fish for you. I am not condoning blood sport or anything like that, but for your purposes that seems to me that it would be most productive in terms of the amount of bait you could get. You would probably be able to fill your freezer. The other thing I suggest is going to your nearest lake's spillway and fishing with canned sweet corn. It is a simple method of fishing, but it is effective for smaller fish.

Too bad you don't live closer. I get 1-3 lbers all the time in the cast net. Makes great catfish bait!

yeah Joe Pool with a castnet. Chum it up and toss the net. Don't want too long or you won't be able to lift it! I would also say release any over 8 or 10lbs.

I would guess that most of the bow hunters of fish don't go for the smaller (<10lbs) carp; but, not being one I don't know for sure.

Im not here to start an argument but I have to disagree with a few of you. I dont see it as bloodsport. If I was killing them for no good reason then yes it would be, but Im not, I use the whole fish, which is more than people who eat carp use, and its for a good reason (in my opinion).
Although I disagree I still respect all of your opinions and I will definatly use your advice. Im gonna get some corn today and give it a shot. Wish me luck.

I don't think Chris meant to suggest that what you are wanting to do is bloodsport. I have no problem with people harvesting small carp as long as it is from one of the lakes, most of which---at least in DFW---seem to be overpopulated anyway, and they are going to be put to use as food or bait. I wouldn't want one of our prized small waters plundered, which I'm not sure would even be legal. As for the thread topic, I suggest a loaf of bread or a can of sweet corn and catch em yourself. It's much funner that way.

yea i have no problem with people taking them for food or bait, but when they just throw them away just cuz they want to, thats when its a prob, sorry if i made you up set.
