I'll be in Nacogdoches for Thanksgiving and was thinking about hitting Rayburn the day after if the weather is ok. What's the closest/easier ramp to get to?

Looking at Google maps, I see a Marion Ferry Park if I came all the way down through Lukfin but that seems out of the way.

I also see Etoile Park if I go down FM226 to HWY 103. That one seems like the much shorter and direct trip.

If I use either of those, can I stay up on that end of the lake and find any decent fishing? Having never been on it, I have no interest in wandering too far on that monster.

i would either:

1. go to lufkin and take 69 to huntington then fm 2109 to monterrey park.

2. take 21 from nacogdoches to san augustine and 96 down to mill creek park or twin dikes.

both have closest access to the better areas to fish.

We were just there and launched out of Cassell Boykin Park. Take 147 out of San Augustine to just across the bridge. It was in a pretty good location.

After reading up, I am considering just hitting Lake Nacogdoches. I'll literally be 5 minutes down the road and it sounds like it's a nice little bass lake.

Lake Nacogdoches is a VERY GOOD lake to fish. It is a slot lake and has lots of good fish and is very good for fun fishing!!!

That's what I'm gathering. Will be taking my father-in-law and brother-in-law so just want to have a chance to catch some fish and enjoy the day.

Being a small lake, I think we should be able to hit a lot of spots and find some fish. Seems like the fish should be up the coves/creeks in shallows and hopefully make for a good time. Just hope the weather cooperates and no nasty fronts come through and lock them up.

That was our original plan to fish Nacogdoches on Monday after fishing Big Sam the days before. Just couldn't change lakes after a 70+ fish day. They were schooling up in the coves. Maybe the same over there too. Please post how you did on Nacogdoches. I'll fish there at some point.

I live closer to Lake Nac than Rayburn but I finally had to quit fishing there. It absolutely spoiled me for fishing tournaments on Rayburn. I just could not understand why I couldn't do AS good on Rayburn!

Put in at Shirley creek in Etoile and you can go either way on the Rayburn. I fish out of Shirley creek, (I live in Nacogdoches) and find it easy to go up the lake or down the lake. I fish Stanley creek a lot, and sometime I run down to Veach basin, and I fish all points in between. Shirley creek has good ramps and good parking.

I live in Nac and would go to LAke Nac in a heart beat. Save money and way better fishery for fish in the 3 to 5 pound range. I guide on both lakes but advise people to go to lake Nac if they don't care about fishing Rayburn just cause they have heard of Rayburn.

Here is some of advise Lake Nace is small and don't treat it like a lake but more like a giant creek. Yea they will go into creeks but you can catch a fish on that lake anywhere. I was catching 50 to 60 a day last year that time usually 5 0r 6 over 5 pounds. Good luck.

If you go to Rayburn I drive it a bunch been every which way
Shirley creeks the closest go to Woden then take a right go to Etoile take a left on 103 then take your first right thats the closest ramp around good fish.

If you go to Jackson Hill Cassell boykins or Harvey Creek always go East on 21 to Chireno take a right on 95 till it dead ends take a left on 103 go across the bridge take your first right at the yellow blinking light till dead ends on 147 take right. From there you will have to decide. That way is quicker than the others mentioned.

Go to Lake Nac though
