With the new Cruix Reels I am looking at putting togeter 4 new rods. I am EXTREMLY new to Bass fishing. So new that I am still waiting to land the first one in the boat. Here are the four roads I am looking at putting together.

Crankin Rod- 7'
Spinnerbait Rod - 7'
Topwater Rod - 7'
Flip/Pitch - 7'11"

I have a spinning reel that I been using for plastics that has mono on it. Should I change this out? I will be replacing this rod with a baitcast in time.

I know line type and size depends on person throwing the line and the feel that it gives them. However, With me never throwing a Flour or a braid I have no idea what it feels like. Thanks in advance for all the insite.

Tommy

Keep the spinning reel/rod and put 8# flouro on it. Use it for shakey head/drop shot.

Crankin Rod - 12# Red Label Seaguar Flouro
Spinner Bait - 15# Red Label Seaguar Flouro
Topwater - 15# Big Game Mono
Flip/Pitch - 17-20 Red Label Seaguar Flouro

Red Label is only $10 a spool and Ive used it for a couple weeks now with no issues. I usually use Seaguar InvizX but bought some Red Label to try out and havent had any issues yet.

My setup is:

Crankin Rod - 14# XPS Floro
Spinnerbait - 14# XPS Floro
Topwater - 14# XPS Floro
Flip/pitch - 50# Spiderwire Invisi-braid

I should probably change my topwater to mono, but the only mono I have on hand at the moment is 17#, 4#, and 8#. I'll probably go to about 12-14# mono on it when I get around to it smile

I stuck with the Floro for the Crankin and spinnerbait just because I really didn't like some of the memory I've found on mono lines. The Flipping/pitching, I went for the 50# braid because of the cover I like to flip into. I'd rather lose the bait than lose the fish.

I know you are asking more about line, but for me, I like my topwater rod to be 6'6 or so, this makes it easier for me to walk the dog etc. If it will be used for frogs or buzzbaits then 7' is great. Just my preference though.

MSU yes it was intended for line however, I am a rookie at everything. I was probley picking my rods wrong but here is what I was looking at. I was looking at St. Croix Mojo Bass Rods. I know there are alot of people using Falcon rods. I would really like to stay around the 100 dollar mark for a rod. So any suggestions are welcome because I DONT have a clue of what I am doing.

the MOJO bass series is a good rod IMO. Ive got 1 right now and really like it. I'll probably pickup a couple more.

"pickup line for certain situations"

At Bas Pro Shops "That's a pretty good lookin bait you got in your hands, will you take me out and show me how to use it?"

At Academy "That's a good reel, what kind of boat do you own?"

At Cabelas "I've got black lights on my boat, we could make it an all nighter"

Sorry couldn't help myself.

Seriously, the Falcon Silver series are under $100 and if you spend $5-10 on a balancing system it will make a world of difference. A balancing system will turn your rod into one that is compareable to one that is double the money. thumb

The Mojo series are good rods, also second the all-stars. American Rodsmith has a 50 dollar rod at academy that I really like for the price. Academy also will replace anything so if one breaks you aren't out anything.
