Does anybody use Snakebite hook link? I came across a spool and im looking for some effective rigs to tie with it. I dont have any experience with stiff hook lengths, i almost exclusively use soft merlin. The person in this video used it to create some stiff rigs but im not too fond of the number of carp that take the hook bait and not get hooked. Anybody have a snakebite rig that works for them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CchVIX-RSw

This shows how to tie a 'sliding hook' rig with coated braid: http://www.carpology.net/downloads/nailed3.pdfAlso many strip off the last 3 or 4 inches of the coating, leaving just the inner braid, and tie on the hook using a knotless knot hair rig, so that the inch or so of hooklink material actually connected to the hook is supple braid and the coated part then remains stiffer and keeps the rig from tangling. I'm not sure if that makes sense; I've seen it many times on the web, though (just not now when I looked for it!)

Also, some use the coated braid and after tying the hook on and end swivel, strip a 1/2 inch portion an inch or two from the hook to make a 'hinged stiffie' sort of rig. This gives you some anti-tangle properties of the stiff rig as well as some more supple movement to help in hooking.
Disclaimer: I don't use the stuff myself, mostly because of the cost of it, but I see lots of examples of rigging using it.

Thanks for the insight, ive been doing some research on hinge rigs and looks as though the snakebite would work with it. The stiffness from the coating look lie it would help the hook turn like shrink tubing does.

i use fox cortex braid, i make a 10 turn knotless knot hair rig and the length is 4 inches, then i mahe a loop knot to attach it to a swivel, then about an inch above the hook i strip a piece of coating to creat a hunge effect.

You guys are even talking about my local mag carpology, its like being back at home =) When I first started checking out the Forum, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many other carpers there were. I was finally able to come out of the closet and declare that I was a proud carper. The picture in your sig is a very impressive fish. How big was it? Looking forward to getting with you and getting you onto your first buffalo.
