Well I haven't seen one yet. With no dipstick that is another pain for the do it yourselfer. Not for sure but would imagine this may be a lighter duty variation of the torqueshift coming out in the 2011 Superduty when they release the new diesel and 6.2L Triton gas. I'm waiting to see when they release the 6.2L in the F150 in 2012, we'll see right now the ol' 97 (paid for) still looks good. Here is a write up on the torqueshift from another forum I frequent (interesting read). Congratulations on the new ride. woot

well today i took a road trip in the new truck and i gotta say thats the best shifting tranny iv felt in a while, no sloppy shifts, no delayed action, just a postive firm shift from overdrive to 3rd then you floor it and it really kicks in to 2nd and hauls arse. third geaar is smooth going to forth and so forth. my gmc was always sloppy in down shifting and up shifting. seems liked i was waiting for it to make a decision on when it was gonna shift and sometimes it seemed like it didnt know what gear to choose.

buffaloman chris, what did you do with your old truck? Did you end up doing an exorcism on it. That trucks was cursed with all the problems you had with it. Good luck with the new one.

They might be sealing the transmissions now with synthetic fluid.

No checking, no changing, the tranny fluid.

Hope that new Ford tranny loves you long time! cheers

If all the Ford lovers out there had one like my 2001 Supercrew you all would be Toyota owners now too. After owning that truck I could not in my right mind recommend a Ford to anybody.

The only new GMC pickup I bought back in 79 pretty well had me feeling the same way for a number of years. You run across a bad one now and then no matter who build them. The old saying is don't buy one built on a Monday or a Friday. I remember back in the mid 70's a guy driving a pickup (make withheld) with a billboard in the bed with negative comments about the vehicle, mfg and dealer for years. Used to see it every day when working at a full service gas station while in high school always got a big laugh.

yea i kinda agree with that, i looked my my ford and it has a sticker on the windsheild saying it was built in the ohio kentuky plant here in the usa, makes me feel better knowing it cane from the usa and not mexico where my other gmc was lmao. not sayting that had anything to do with all the problemd i had thou with it.

maybe im just a ford guy after all iv had 4 with no problems at all. a 90,03,08 and now a 2010. i miss that 90 thou i restored that truck from the frame up, it would boil the tires thru 1,2,3 gears and run in the 10's in a 1/8 mile. cry

Look at some of the major parts and you are liable to see "echo en Mexico". My main issue with my 2001 is the shoddy engineering. I can live with an occasional slip up due to the assembly. I have owned Fords for 30+ years and almost all have been good to me. My 2001 just has far too many issues to overlook. Some of these issues Ford should have taken care of and 10 years ago I believe they would have. When service mangers start telling you things like "Ford believes that one quart of oil/thousand miles is not excessive and you are fortunate your ball joints made it too 70k and did not go out at 25k" then it is time to part ways.

Am I reading something into this? Is Ford gonna put a diesel in the F-150's?

deerfeeder, Supposed to in 2011.

Stump Jumper, there are alot of components mfg here then sent to mexico for assembly then sent back here for final assembly no matter what mfg. Doesn't matter if it's truck or your tv, pc everything we use anymore. You just can't by American anymore and be assured that it is 100% American. Also my 97 doesn't use any oil I use conventional 5w30 and change it at 2-2.5k and it has 111k, one of my tech's has an 01 and uses synthetic 5w20 and it looses a quart every 1k and it's not leaking it but who knows where it burning it from. He just recently went to using the MC synth blend 5w20 and said at 1k it was only 1/2 quart low. My dad has an 03 and uses the MC synth blend 5w20 and changes his 2-2.5k and his hasn't used any. hmmm We have 7 E-250's and change at 3-5k intervals and non of my guys have reported any unusual oil consumption believe me these trucks get driven hard too. eeks

I guess I'm lucky. The wife has an 02 F-150, with about 180K on it and no problem except some slight leakage from the rear differential. My '02 F-250, 7.3, has 175k on it, no problem except a recent idler arm replacement and the left front hub went out. The 08 F-250, with the 5.4 has 52K on it and has had zero problems. We change oil evry 3K, I've used Quaker State, Pennzoil, Shell and have finally put them all on Castrol.

A diesel F-150 sounds very tempting..

Hey Fordnut,

I had a 97 4.6 and it was great. Nothing but normal maint. until 180k and then I replaced one converter. Sold it with 186k and it was using a qt maybe every 3000. I have used 5-20 motorcraft and am now using 5-30 Castrol and see no difference. It has used a qt around 1500 maybe 2000 since new. Mine is like your techs. No leaks at all. I think it uses it on start up. Seems to use more when it is just driven on short trips. If I had just one issue it would be one thing but the issues with this truck run the gambit. The dash is just disgusting and that stupid cup holder that is such an easy fix is just plain ridiculous.

I'll have to agree with you about the cup holder. Mine is more of a catch all I think there is like 3 jigs and my phone charger hanging on mine now. Thank the lord for the center consol and capt chairs. I'll never own one without one, thats where the real stuff is stashed. One of my guys dad is the fleet manager for a metro city and he says if you got a ford using oil it's ok to go with 10w30. Personally I don't think it would hurt either especially one with around 80 to 100k. I've used Valvoline in my personal vehicles since the first 66 Stang I bought in 74 for $600. I bought my youngst daughter a 99 Stang 2 years ago for 10 times that where did the good ol' days go. Anyway this is the first vehicle I didn't put 10w40 in. I was very leary the first time I changed mine. I really change mine based on time as it only get driven on the weekends since I drive a company vehicle during the week. But when it does get driven it isn't babied. I won't have something I'd be afraid of stepping into. Like I don't step in enough (sensored) already. But I know guys that have other fords and have heard them using a quart of oil every 1k and I know that would drive me nuts. I know another guy with a GMC that has more miles on it from being dragged by the hook than he's driven it. He's looking at a new Silverado now. It's more hit and miss. I had a company vehicle Ford Van about 7 years ago and when it hit 1k miles the cat colapsed and stoped up the muffler and unknow after the repair the back pressure distorted the heads and intake manifold and that thing would spring random coolant leaks. Ford replaced the heads and intake but that thing was never quite right. You just never know, pray to be lucky.

With all the bad press and from personal experience there is no way that I was touching a Ford V8 when I bought my last truck. I thought about going to 10-30. As far as the cup holder goes it is not the funtionality but the cheapness. I have seen many of these things break after just a couple or 3 years. The thing that really made me mad was the fix was so easy. I just removed the holder, retreived the spring and riveted it. I am not sure what Ford was thinking with cheap way they had it fastened.

Just don't forget to put your man step up when you are done loading your truck LOL!!!!!! J/K glad to hear you have a good truck now. But I like my Chevy 2009 I hate ford and they are way to much $$$$$$$ to work on with the dealer only parts after the warranty is out good luck with the new truck. Just to don't forget to put the pole down before you lift the tail gate up looks funny if you forget and the step is still up to looks like a travel suit case on wheels LOL.... Sorry had to.

Ha Ha!! the Pirelli's are pretty soft tires IMO. As far as the speed limiter programed in the PCM welcome to our benevolent gov. looking out for the collective good of all of us. But there is ways around that. Check this out (below) I have one of these (Gryphon) on my ol'97 I put on it a couple of years ago and man did it wake it up with little or no mods from factory. This will unlock the speed and rev limiters if you choose and select different program modes as well as switch back to factory if you have to take it into the dealership for service. They don't show it (the newer product) but check their forum about the newer 09-10 model units. This is the guy edge uses to write the canned programs for their units. I highly recommend them. In fact this is an edge device he supplies and reprograms to accept full custom programs for any if any mods you may want to do in the future. Good luck and enjoy the new ride. Didn't have any intentions on hyjacking your thread. Here is the link.

Naw you just gotta know where to look for them. There's alway a short period of time before the aftermarket catch-up after a new release that goes pretty much with anything. As far as the steps and handles your young now just wait till your knees and back get about 30 plus years of busting down heavy machinery you'll be mounting a handrail on that gov. mtrs. bow tie. All in good fun, Howie. cheers
