I have a 2003 Sierra Z71 and for about a week it have been hearing a high pitched noise coming from somewhere in the front of the truck. I cant tell exactly where because it only starts when I get over about 10-15mph. It doesnt get louder when i'm going faster or change if i'm accelerating or braking. I know this may be hard to answer, but any similar experiences or ideas would be great. Thanks

look at the dust shelds behing the brake rotors, maybe there is a rock lodged in there somewhere. are your brake pads worn, if so maybe the little tab on the pads are rubbing the rotors, just a thought.

The brakes seem fine and it happens when the a/c is off also. The noise doesn't change when I turn. Once I get upto about 12mph it starts and doesn't change till I'm going slower than about 12mph. It almost sounds like metal rubbing together making the high pitched noise. I wish it was simple but I think i'm going to take it somewhere monday. I've heard of people with four wheel drive having kind of similar problems/noises when it's going out.

Could be a wheel bearing going out. Those sealed bearings are notorious for that. You have to replace the entire hub.

They usually make a roar more then a high pitched noise though.

+ 1 on the wheel bearing, had one go out on my 04, The way they have it set up sucks cause you have to buy the whole thing, bout 140. Luckily my dad had one go out before me so i just used his lifetime warranty at autozone. Call some buddies if you know anybody who replaced one i think 02 through 06 is the same part.

Thanks for the ideas, but I think i'll have to take it in eventually. I really cant tell exactly the area its coming from since it only happens while driving and it happens sometimes and other times it doesnt. I'm starting to think it sounds more like a squeek. I dont know.

Just remember, the problem will not fix itself. The longer you put off the repairs, the more wear/damage you take a chance on doing to your truck. More damage = more $$$

Get the advisor to ride with you & hear the noise. That way they cannot say they didn't hear it.
