I would like to hear some info on this stretch of river. Put in spots, take out spots, is the river fast, are there rapids?

I did find this which is very helpful. http://southwestpaddler.com/docs/red3.htmlBut I would still like to hear some tips from people who have actually gone there. And is a Texas fishing license sufficient since its technically halfway in Texas?

A Texas license is good only on the Texas side of the river from the dam to the mouth of the creek that feeds on river right. Shawnee Creek I think is the name. It's about 400 yards from the dam to the creek mouth. Best put in is on the Ok side below the dam, there is a small COE park there. I know for a fact you can take out at Carpenter's Bluff bride 13 miles downstream. There is a private ramp on right that you can use for a fee, on the left is a public area which is a little more work to take out, but not too bad. About 7 miles downstream from the dam is a camp called Wild Kingdom that would probably let you take out there. A mile or two (?)below the dam is the Hwy 75 bridge, I don't know if that is a good take out or not. The only rapids are at the put in if they're releasing. Lots of standing waves and some pilings unless they're letting enuff water out to cover the pilings. Fishybiz has posted several times about kayak fishing below the dam, I don't know if he paddled downstream. If you choose to make a downstream trip out of it, there are a lot of fossils and artifacts to be found on this stretch of river, if you're into that. The water levels fluctuate wildly depending on dam releases. If they're releasing, you'll fly down the river. If not there will be some shallow areas.

You can bank fish from TX with a TX license but in the water or on the OK side you must have an OK license. I've had great luck with bait, soft plastics, and on the fly there below the Denison dam. I've never paddled past the 75 bridge.

I took out once across the river from that moto cross park, at Sewells Bluff at the rest stop. What a biotch! Dave, you'll definitely need an Ok license to fish the Red. I think it's $25 for a temp out of state, good for either 3 or 5 days. I got pics of the put ins and take outs if you're interested.

Yeah post the pics. Every time I go to brokenbow I get a license. I think I might as well get a year long license for OK. Hey Steve we are going to have to make a short trip up to the red river here soon.
