I have a buddy down there now fishing with 2 other guys. Between the 3 of them, he said they caught about 70, 3-5 lbers yesterday. I know the way they fish and I can guarantee 90% were caught on a Zoom watermelon/red finesse worm just working the shorelines in 5'-15'.

Depends on the wind and where you are planning to fish.
I will be down Thursday through Sunday and will probably stay on the Texas side. that leaves 3 primary spots for launching, that is if you're not military and can access the Air Force ramp, but the ramps I will be using are Diablo, Black Brush and Rough Canyon again depending on the wind which it will be. Box Canyon is also an option.

I like Black Brush...mainly because it's not 2 mile walk to the parking lot like Diablo! smile

I might be wrong, but I don't think you have to be military to launch at Air Force -- just can't use any of the other facilities.

I do know plenty of non-military people use the ramp.

I made an assumption about the Air Force facility and you know what that can mean about assuming but, it is good to know that non-military can use the launch ramp there. I never asked or tried. it's nice to learn something new everyday, thanks.

Was there last weekend. Fishing was good on Friday but the cold front turned them off Sat and Sun. Watermelon candy senkos in the grass and brush. Alot of fish in the shallows on Friday. If it stays warm they should still be there. Just have to be patient. Cow creek is holding alot of fish also.

What about water levels? It's not too low to launch from the High Bridge is it?

Hey fellas,

I'm a student pilot at Laughlin AFB and will hope to be tearing up Amistad on Saturdays for the next year. Keep the gouge coming! I can't wait to get out there.

All ramps are open, the lake is only 2 and a half or so feet low, it's the highest I have ever seen it(don't make it there very often, but is is high). LaughlinAngler, there is a nice rec camp by the dam that's run by the AF outdoor rec bubbas....they rent bass trackers if you need a boat. They also have some cheap cabins that sleep 8 you can stay in at the marina.

Also, check in at the Angler's lodge and they will let you know what to use and where to use it. The bass were pretty scattered last week...anywhere from 5-25'....25' is as deep as I fish, so they may have been even deeper.

Dang the Air Force always has it good! Never had those kind of rec resources in the Corps!

Yeah, not in the Army either!! We always joked about trying to get stationed at AF bases for all the good stuff they did for their folks. Heck, I teach on Goodfellow here in San Angelo and they have a real nice rec camp on lake nasworthy...and this is a small training base...
