I have a 2005 F-250 and every now and then going about 40-45mph after I hit a pothole my front end shakes pretty bad and I have to slow down pretty good to get it back under control. Anyone have and idears on what it is? I asked the guys while getting my tires balanced and rotated to check the front end stabilizer and my alignment but they say everything is ok. I'm stumped....

Thanks guys, I'll give that a try and see what happens. I've had the truck since it was brand new and now have 83K miles on it with the factory shocks and brakes still on it. I was wondering if that could be a factor.....

check and see if there an anti sway shock on it... it will run horizontal instead of vertical like your normal shocks..its function is to keep that front end from swaying.. if its bad it wil cause the front end to do exactly what your saying it does.
It will be located in front of the axel and sway bar

this is really common in the ford heavy duty trucks...

We have f350 ambulances and Ive driven a few friends trucks that were f250 and f350 2wd's and if you hit a hole it will shake like crazy until you slow down to about 20-30 mph makes it pretty dangerous on the highway

Be sure to check the tie rods and ALL bushings. Had a truck previously that did same thing and it turned out to be the bushings. There's a lot of weight on the front of that thing and they get a good working.

dont know about a recall but their was a service bulliten out that basically said to check all front suspenson components, and make sure they were tight, retorque the panhard rod to 450 ft/lbs and reduce the front caster by .5 degrees on each side,

I'll keep looking but you could always take it to Garland Safety Lane they are on Garland Avenue South of Miller but North of Kingsley. I've had them working on all my vehicles since 1974 and highly recommend them.

With 83k I would replace the shocks for sure and probably the steering stabilizer (shock on steering linkage). I think it was 2 weeks ago there was a Tom & Ray letter in the morning news. Not a Ford but the same problem. It was a Jeeep and one thing they recommended was the stabilizer.

Thats a great article, thanks! Everyone I have talked to keeps saying its got to be the stabilizer. Now I just need to get around to getting it in the shop...

Steering stabilizer should be easy to replace. I have not done one on a 250 but I have installed on 150s.

probably shocks but it could be radius arm bushings sway bar bushings, the sway bar shoiuld be tight no side to side movement or ball joints

I have had bad arm bushings and ball joints on a 150 but just had slight vibrations and tire wear.
