After reading about Seafoam here on the TFF I decided to run some through my 82 Mariner 150, I have never used it before and thought it couldn't hurt. Man what a differance, The motor fires up quicker (it was very cold natured before) runs better and my boat is alot faster. Good stuff. Just my 2c.

Been thinking about trying it out myself. Heard about it here just like you did. I've only used Stabil in mine.

Can Seafoam be used in conjunction with Sta-Bil?
Or just use Seafoam with a new tank and run it through?

What proportions did you mix and how many tankfuls did it take to notice the difference?

Also, does it do anything to your fuel lines, or is it safe?

Yes...use Marine stabil, though. The blue-green one.

if the engine is an older one run a full can of sea foam in 10-15 gals. (get non ethanol if you can), for a full decarb get a spray bottle and spray into the air intake as directed on the can then go run the gas mix out of it. will probably need to change the plugs on a full decarb but will be well worth it. I did the decarb on my 82 johnson 175 and went to the pennzoil full synthetic (buy at wallyworld for 28.00) and man what a difference, starts and runs about like new now.

I agree with running sea foam and stabil. For someone who has never used it I would suggest doing a full decarb, changing the plugs, and start adding sea foam and using synthetic oil.

You add one ounce of stabil per 10 gallons of gas. As others said, buy the blue looking stuff NOT the pink stuff. Run a full can of sea foam the first time with 10 or more gallons of gas. Now I only add 1/2 a can everytime I add 12 gallons of gas. It costs a little $ but your engine will love you for it.

I have a 77 Johnson 175 that used to run rough. Now it really does run like new. My dad bought the motor new and commented last time I took him out that it never ran that good for him.

I had between 8 and 10 gallons of gas in the boat when I put it in. The can says that it will treat 8 to 25 gallons so I figured I was OK on the mix. Jeepthing it took about 20 minutes to tell a differance in the way that the boat ran.

Yes. Always use Sta-bil and Seafoam together. Especially if you use gas with ethanol in it. I use them in my boat, truck, lawn mower, chainsaw and hunting truck. After sitting for 3-4 months, it fires right up and runs like a champ. I love the stuff.

I have even used the stuff in some coleman lanterns that would not burn right, assuming from either water or varnish but when I put the seafoam in there with the fuel they started working right again. That is some good stuff there, like others I use it in all my motors.

So, on a 50HP Merc, is it better to run the Seafoam completely out? Or, is it ok just to put it in and run the engine for about 10-20 minutes?

Had a customer come in with an electric fuel pump that quit working on a motorhome generator. He wanted me to see what would re-place the pump because the RV place quoted him 428.00 for a new pump, WOW. I said lets try this, pour some Sea Foam in it with a hose between the in and out side and let it set overnight. The next day I connected it to a battery to test, run fine, he put it back on and has been working fine for over a year. Now he buys the Sea Foam by the case.

OK! I have a buddy who`s son is in his senior year at UT to become a petroleum engineer. (Quote) their is not a product made at this time that will prevent ehtynol mixed fuel degradation and that the blue is plan and simply a different color but 3 times the price. WOW Sounds like another rip-off. He said in their testing that some additives, actually hurt more than they help. The best news he had was the industry will soon have a much better ethynol that is extracted from saw grass. He said their test with it showed very little negative effects and actually showed positive results when mixed with gasoline. Best advice for ethynol, based on what I was told, was to use the additives designed for use by the outboard motor. manufactures.
