I hit Worth for a few hours this evening and I rolled into a creek that had so many shad the ENTIRE creek was black. I have never seen anything like this. I mean acres of shad. It was crazy. Then I made a run from the 820 bridge to the 199 bridge area and there were thousands of birds dive bombing the surface that it made it hard to run past 30mph without hitting one. Its again something I have never seen to this extent. It looked like movie special effects.
As for the fishing it was not bad at all.

i fished an area last weekend that was similar with shad.. i couldnt fish a crank because i kept snagging shad and fouling the bait. i got frustrated and just left it alone.

I just about got hit in the head by a duck on Lavon a week ago.

I was going about 60 MPH 200 yards off the dam and saw a huge group of ducks way out in frot off me. All took off and then one duck did a 180 and came back and just missed my front butt seat.

I ducked (ha ha) but if it would have hit me I would have been in trouble.

Mark, the last few days before I flew out, I did notice the birds flying over the lake. From the 820 bridge to goat island they were solid flying around in circles.

Something odd, I was on Granbury last weekend in a cove and shad were busting everywhere also. the funny thing is I didn't catch on single bass near them. I tried everything from shallow running shad color cranks to topwaters. Did hook onto a huge striper, thought it was a bass and was peeling line. Yelled to the partner to do some bragging and show it off until it came to the surface to reveal its face as a striper. Dang it thought I had a big one!

Had the same think happen at Ray Hubbard the other day. Shad everywhere and fish hitting them. Thought they were bass. Threw a Zara Spook and hooked a nice one. Was really excited until I saw all his stripes!!! It was a nice hyrbid though. Fun to catch.

Same thing on Cypress Srpings a couple of weeks ago. They weren't even freaked out by the trolling motor. They rode the wake at the bow like a dolphin. Sad part was we only managed one, maybe two fish out of it.

Is the water to cold now, or not cold enough for the bass to follow shad into creeks and coves? Last weekend the only bites and fish we caught after trying to fish those coves with shad were shallow submerged grass and laydowns.
