I am replacing the impeller on my 33hp Johnson. This is the one that I took out of it. Not being familiar with them, I don't know if this one is bad, good, on the border, etc.
I would like to know so in the future I will have an idea of it's condition by it's characteristics.

I always replace the impeller when I have the LU off. From the pics, yours looks a little worn, but it is hard to tell. They are cheap insurance IMHO.

In my limited experience, if the vanes won't go perfectly straight it has taken a "set". Might work, but not pump 100% correctly. Like rb says cheap insurance.

Does`nt look that bad but would never re-use an impeller period! I do`nt know why but when I first saw your impeller I thought Yamaha. It just does`nt look like a OMC. Just be shure to get the right one and file 13 this one.

Impellers like that one is less than $20, Why put it back in and later do the work all over again? Plus if you want to check the impeller, turn the blades backwards and look for stretch marks or cracking, either way ,"Deep 6 that sucker."

I am replacing it, I ordered a new one Sunday off IBoats and it should be here tomorrow. Matt(Martin Pro Service) recommended I change it regardless of it's condition, since I had the lower unit already open. Thanks for the input guys.

bigtexnick; What you show in the pic is all to common. What a person needs to do when they find the impeller like that is to find every piece of every blade. It happens more than what you think that a piece went up the copper tube and is lodged somewhere in the water diverter plate, power head, popet valve or thermostat. This is when you need to flush the cooling system backwards. We take a water hose and inject water from the bottom of the copper pipe until we have filled the block with water. Then using 175psi air pressure we, inject air thru the pee-pee tube and hold a strainer below to catch the debri. We do this several times to make sure nothing is not lost. Also look below the wear plate of the water pump housing down into the water intake cavity. Lot of times pieces fall in there and then is sucked up and ruin a new impleller.

Yep, No use putting an old one in it. If the engine is older and you're not sure of the water pump, go ahead and put a base plate and cup on it too.

Really,it's not a test. How many years did you run that impeller. It's just for reference.
