Dbullard and me went up White Rock Creek on Livingston and found some good bluecat fishing at the shoal. The water was 3.5' and a strong current flowing. It was also chocolate brown with all of the rain that has been falling.
For the first 2hour we caught small ones and lost a good fish, About 11:00 dbullard tied into a very good fish that took the 7' heavy action catfish special Ugly stick and 20lb line to the limit.
At 45.5" the cat was about 41+lbs according to the length to weight table.
http://mdc.mo.gov/fish/sport/catfish/length_weight.htmThis fish put up the hardest battle I have ever seen a catfish fight. In the shallow water and current it had all of the advantage and used it. It took Dewayne all over the narrow stretch of creek and made many good runs before coming close to the boat and making a determined stand there. Swimming back and forth from bow to stern several times and it made a determined run for the motor. I tilted it up all of the way out of the water, I then got a hold of the anchor rope and was ready to pull it if it made a run for rope.
It did not want to come visit us in the boat and fought the net off three times by rolling it's head out of the too small of a net.
Finally I netted it tail first and we both pulled it over.
We released it and coming from the shallow creek it had no problem swimming off.
What a cat!
