Mikey,
There aint squat that I have found around South Houston/Friendswood. Clear Creek has a hazardous waste contamination consumption ban on it. Chocolate/Halls/Nicks Bayous are all possible, but for Halls and Nicks you have to go through the bay to get to them.
I have a friend that Caught Redfish, LArgemouth, and A small tarpon from one of the three bayous I just named on One Trip.
You might consider Sheldon, or Luces Bayou in Lake Houston. Stowaway Marina in Conroe would not be bad either. The Real trick is where do you want to fish. Texana is down around Ganado on 59, and I am positive your boat would do fine there in the upper stretches. I grew up fishing out of a Decked out 14 foot John boat, with a 9.8 Merc and a minn kota foot control. We fished Kentucky Lake, Lake Oconee, and several oxbows and sloughs out of that lil boat. you might want to get a lil outboard for it just to increase your range, and help you get home when the wind gets up.
Personally, If I had a john boat, I would put a 10hp outboard on it, a saltwater rated trolling motor and woudl spend a year learning Chocolate between Hwy 35 and FM 2004.
BTW, I live in Friendswood.
