I catch them in a dip net and use them for white bass. I had to resort to that because they would not eat any thing else. They wont stay alive on a hook, so it does not really matter how you hook them. I just hooked them through the mouth and jig em up and down near the surface. Walmart has a jig that looks exactly like a ghost minnow I bought a couple of em but have not used them yet.

When I used to fish live bait a lot , I would always
catch a few ghost minnows , and spot tails. It seemed to me if the fish were biting well, they would get bit. There would
be days that every rod with shad would be active and the
rods with minnows would never bend.

As you can see, a good bait for all kinds of fish, net them up. I believe the lake Whitney record stiper was caught on ghost minows

When I was a kid (about 100 years ago) - night fishing for White Bass on lake texoma - we used ghost minnows.

They worked better than anything else, easy to catch (at least back then - using pull scenes) and were free.

Natural baits are pretty hard to beat. Ghost minnows in the spring for whitebass is a family favorite.. they work like nothing else..
