If you're looking for speed don't waste yoRu time with beer. Not enough active yeast to do what you're going for in a hurry. What I do if I'm making a speed batch is to use my turkey fryer to boil a large quantity of water and pour over the grain and let it sit a day. On day 2 add either a half gallon of buttermilk or three packets of dry active yeast and 1lb of sugar. Wait 2-3 days depending on outside temps and fish. Most now I just use dry cattle cube. It doesn't stink and seems to work about as well. Good luck.

Bullprick are you guys getting into catching channels now? Soured grain and range cubes won't do much for helping catch blues and flatheads.

If I need soured grain fast I will heat the water to boiling, add a pound of sugar to it, pour it onto the grain to be soured. I like to use a variety of grain, some milo, wheat, maybe oats, and usually just about 1/4 of the batch will be cracked corn. I will keep it in my 55 gal chum barrel under a heat lamp to really get it started good this time of year. I will even do this in the summer. I depend on "native" yeast to get into the batch but I am sure that adding yeast will speed it up. I will usually toss some beer into the batch as well, but that is just because it has gotten hot, or been in a cooler for too long and I can not think of anything else to do with it.

Use active yeast and a couple of cups of sugar. Add the warm water - just enough to cover the grain/cubes/etc and give it a stir. Watch for the bubbles - fermentation will start nearly immediately.
Range cubes fermented = FOUL. I made a bucket of that two years ago, I swear it smelled EXACTLY like dog grunt. Then when I was dispersing it near the bank where me and my son were fishing, my scooper handle broke mid toss, causing about a half a cup of this wretched brew to hit my son in the back. He was not amused.

Did you look in the chum to see if she was there? Has to be if you lost her over the bucket. And man if your losing women over chum then your not making it right.

Nahhhh, nothing as complicated as that Kid! She just got upset because I kept it in the trailer during a particular cold spell a few years back.
She ran off with a long-distance truck driver from Spartanburg, South Carolina right after the big argument over the chum bucket. Oh well!
But we caught a goodly number of channels on that beautiful concoction!!

Seems like the range cubes would dissolve if you put water on them-like they do when placed in the lake???
