I am wanting to do some jug lining but do have a working boat as of now. I have some jugs made but a jug is free floating, if I tie a line to it and it was tied to land would it then be a throw line? So is it a Throw line or jug line? And can a throwline have foam floats? Thanks Shane

As far as I've read, the only difference to TPWD between the two, is that a jugline has to have a valid gear tag same as a trot line. They have the same restrictions as far as no more than 5 hooks, and no game fish except catfish, so as long as you put a gear tag on it, it won't make any difference whether they call it a jug line or throw line. A throw line is basically a trot line with only 5 hooks or less, so I would recommend placing a gear tag on it anyway.

Just please don't put them out and then forget about them I hate running into aging lines that someone put out and left. I have lost a jug line before, don't know if a big fish dragged it off somewhere or someone else came by and picked it up. I do mark the GPS locations when I put them out, and have reflective tape on them to make them easier to locate at night.

That is what I was thinking, I just need to put a tag on it and paint them white.

if one end is tie to a tree or something else it becomes a throwline, ususally horizontal. juglines are vertical with a float on top and small weight on the bottom.

wouldn't that be called a sail line? if so i think it's illegal in fresh water. i'm don't know for sure and i'm not an expert so please don't anyone send me mean pm's. i am just asking a question.

Some of us use them without weights and other people use them with weights. Both are legal but you must have a tag on it.
