Just got a house on Cedar Creek. Sort of near Log Cabin.

How's the fishing out there -- like realistically? Anyone have luck out there? What are your strategies??

Thanks!!!

It is an excellent lake for most of the popular species, probably a better hybrid and sand bass lake than most as far as numbers go.

Can be up and down. Lots of Recreational boats in the Summer months. Can get a little crowded and scary.

It is an excellent fishing lake. When I was thinking about retiring in the 90s I began checking out large Texas lakes since fishing was my favorite sport. I decided on Cedar Creek. I know Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Livingston well - have fished them since the 70s, and this is a better fishing lake. If you know how to locate and catch white bass, you can go out and get a limit or more every day here - at least during March thru November. I don't fish during the winter so really don't know how it is then. The crappie fishing here is good too. Those (not me) who know where the brush piles are seem to go out and get limits daily.

One major benefit of this lake is that on the south end (where you and I live) I have never seen it muddy up - it's always clear and fishable. Contrast that to Livingston which gets muddy most years in the spring and doesn't clear up until May or even June.

Another reason the lake is so good is that it has so much good structure - drop-offs, points and humps - that attract and hold white bass, hybrids and catfish. This summer I fished the south end (deep end) of Lake Palestine, and it didn't have nearly the number of structures that Cedar Creek does.

Good luck. The posts here on TFF in the various fish categories should help you a lot re how to locate and catch your fish of choice.

thanks for the responses guys. I'm excited to get in the water.

POPPA,

Been taking heat for being an Eagles fan all my life being in Texas. Was raised that way -- Dad originally from Philly.

Sunday night should be interesting :-)

you might take a guide trip or two and let some of the pros there show you the lake and a few fish catching/fish locating strategies there. I'd say if you're going to have a house on the lake and fishing a lot, dropping 200-300 bucks on a very educational trip with a guide would be a small price to pay for the knowledge you'd gain.

Excellent lake! Take a look at my website I have posted daily pictures of our catch on my picture gallery. I am the only full time guide on the lake for crappie/ white bass. If your place is mid lake on the main lake I could probably pick you up from your dock. We are catching lots of crappie and white bass right now. The season generally lasts through the end of the year. Hybrid stripers have been good on overcast days but slow on sunny calm days.
Call anytime! Check out my web site.
