The day started out slow. The wife and I tried fishing for anything that may bite. We tried minnows, worms, stink bait, lures, etc. After lunch we started getting a few bites on plastic worms and the wife pulled in a decent large mouth. After years of catfish and perch fishing, this was her first bass.

They hit on a black and purple worm and were starting to go for a little top water. I tried a Hula Popper and got one to blow up on me, but it didn't take it.

The water temperature has been dropping pretty fast the last two or three weeks. In the middle of September it was 78, it was 74 last weekend, and 68 today.

Have you been on the water as of late? If so what was the temp and any results?

I was there Monday this week and that is when the water was 68 degrees. Over the past month is has dropped quite a bit, I think it was 79 degrees in the middle of September. I just got a boat so I haven't had the time to learn the lake yet, I am still trying to get used to it. I may go fishing in the morning, it all depends what I get done tonight.

I didn't get to go today and may or may not go tomorrow but you are right about the frequency of catch. I have been in the area for a while but without a boat so I never bothered with the lake. I now have a boat and have tried the last few weeks but I just figured I didn't know the lake well enough to catch anything.

Next time I am out there I may try for some crappie and see what happens.

I had no luck so I can't really help you, I have not had a good day on that lake yet. I will have to go with someone who knows more than me sometime.

I'm gonna go tomorrow morning, probably try the creeks and see if I can find any baitfish. I haven't been out there in a while so I'm gonna start out throwing a crank and spinnerbait and try to cover some water but then start working the deep points later in the day with a worm or rattlesnake style bait and try to catch some bigger fish. Will report tomorrow night

If you head out there, just fish for spots and forget the largemouth.

Clint,
Hopefully the bass have followed the shad back there. It is kind of creepy to see shad EVERYWHERE busting the surface and on your graph and NO bass around them. There are still some on the deep points and drops on similar style baits, but most are small. Not sure where the big ones are right now.

The spotted bass are still on the steeper rocky banks and fairly easy to catch on flashy baits or dropshot. Just not the lake it use to be... kind of sad.

Good luck out there... hope someone figures them out.

Sorry about the delayed report a friend from high school came in Monday so I decided to wait and take him out there tomorrow (Wed.) and see if we could get on any fish. He has been in California with the marines so hasn't got to wet a line in a good while. I wish they would lower the lenght requirements on the spots out there, I don't keep LMB but I would love to fry up some of those 12 inch spots tomorrow evening, anybody know why they have to be 18?

Was out Sunday afternoon and only caught 4 largemouths. Biggest was 1 lb. Interested in finding out where the big bass may be.

Alan Henry sucked big time today, we were on the lake at 6:15am, partner caught 2 fish right by the ramp with a small black spinnerbait,we then went up in the main lake and fished points, nothing for several hours. We went up Big Grape and nothing there, we threw everything we had in the boat senkos, worms, rattlesnakes, swimjigs, swimbaits, buzzbaits, all colors. Partner caught 2 more bass around 11:00 am, we left at 1:30 and called it a day. There was very little wind this morning and most of the lake was like glass, it was a beautiful day, but the fishing sucked big time. This lake is getting worse every time we go, wish it was better.

My report is similar to lotsagas4u. We got on the water at 11:30 am and headed to Rocky, caught nothing there, we used various soft plastics in all depths of the water column. Saw one group of shad and followed them but couldnt get anything to bite around them. Headed to the main lake around 1 to fish points and caught a couple of dinks on more soft plastics, I missed a pretty solid fish on a swimbait deep off the edge of a point, the guy I was with lost one that might have gone 3 lb. on a bass assassin working it deep off another point. We left at 2:30 it was hot, there was no wind, and the water was too cold to swim. Beautiful day, but not for fishing. Should have probably finess fished all day if I had it to do over again.

We are starting another petition to change the spotted bass regulation. Only thing that makes since, is to have it the same as the largemouth, so their wo`nt be any problems with identifying the type fish you have. With all of the crosses being caught it would take the guess work out of it. To allow, 2 under 18in. per person, per day any type of bass. We are still waiting to hear on the bass restocking petition. After a lot of discussion with other guys that fish A. H. a lot we have come to agree that the fishing has been gradually going down hill for last several years. Just look at the stocking report at TP&W.

Good luck I have been trying for crappie everytime down there never got them figured out yet but if you want to find some catfish I would try drifting in front of the dam with some live or cut minnows or throw some stinkbait while up in the brazos river.

My granddad said he saw maybe a 25 pound bluecat fishing in the river one day right under the top of the water and he always catches the channels with danny kings stinkbait up in the river.

Thank you on both accounts. I'm sure any petition you start will be strongly supported from the TTU bass fishing team, we don't look forward to having tourneys out there which is pathetic since it's our home lake. Time for TPWD to do something besides write tickets out there.
