Being new to chasing big ones in this area, I would like to come out and check out some of the gear. I live in Georgetown and have caught many in this area but not like the ones from Austin. None of mine have ever been that big just looking for some help.

BFS,
I would be happy for you to come out and visit me the next time I am in Austin. The only problem is that I don't know when that will be. It might not be for another month. Keep checking in though. I'll give you the run-down on the gear and stuff.

Cabelas has some rods and reels you can use as well, plus hooks, lines, and sinkers! Check out other threads in this Rough Fish / Carp section pertaining to gear, as well as websites such as SouthernPaylaker.com, CarpAnglersGroup.com, and AmericanCarpSociety.com. Other great online stores: BigCarpTackle.com, ResistanceTackle.com, ScorpionTackle.com, WackerTackle.com, RoyalCarp.com. And bait sites like TheBaitStop.com, K1-baits.com, TresFloresBait.com, and a few others as well. It can get overwhelming at first. Many can make do with the same sort of tackle that you use for larger catfish, redfish, or heavy bass tackle as well. No need to spend a fortune to get started; start where you are and upgrade as it makes sense. My two bits!

Thanks guys for the help. I normally fish for them with ultra lite tackle around home. 2 of my best are a 12 lb on 8lb tesr and about an 8-10 lb on 4 lb test what a fight they were!

I am thinking that i might be going out to check it out this weekend. I have looked at a map of the area, and know that you guys fish in numbered hole just curious as to what the numbers are and where they are at, or where i might try since this place is new to me.

bfs78, there are some 'named' spots on Lady Bird Lake as well, but it would be too difficult to try to describe them here. Plus, they vary greatly in results depending on weather, wind direction, etc. Generally you want to be on the windblown shore, looking/casting into the wind. Good luck!

I have looked at one guys map on here but still not sure as to what i am getting into on some of these spots. I have thought about trying right above Tom Miller dam below the Hula Hut, but not sure on what the bank looks like.

You can fish next to the hula hut although it is next to impossible to land any decent size fish. There is a park with a small dock just up river about 2 blocks that is much easier to fish. This time of the year with less boat traffic it is fishable.
