Ok sorry for the constant questions here! After a couple days of tying i am already think to get a better vise. Fisrt I bought a tying kit for flies to get the vise at gander mountain. I am sure its about as least expensive as you can get and will serve some well. However I perfer to find a vise without a clamp that built into a tying station. I have way too much in the garage on the work benches to clamp a vise with my reloading equipment and all and the look in the wifes eyes when i clamped to the kitchen table, well well just say she did not say anything but I think I could see in her eyes her kitchen table is not my work bench LOL smile
Anyway i would like to find a nice vise perfer it to rotate with a tying station to attach it too. May keep me out of the dog house. I just hate to throw a ton of money in a vise i know nothing about and if its any good. Any suggestions are welcome smile

You can get a base that it will fit on & just set it on the table or you can have one made out of a piece of flat steel with a provision for the stem of the vice to slide down in with a set screw to lock it in place.

I have the Peak vise which is a very good true rotary vies and I also have both methods of using it. I have a "C" clamp style and one with a base and both are the same price. We can talk through PM's if you want.

This is a top notch vise. I have several different kinds of vises, a Renzetti, a Nor and Peak. I have had the El-cheapo and have had Danvise so know a bit about these.

Decided not too spend too much on a vise at the moment so I am passing on the peak any of these listed below any good I can make a stout base in the shop I think i have some 1/2 plate steel a small piece of that some tubing welded to it a set screw and a drill and tap should secure me one heck of a stable tying platform like hotmod suggested

Are any of these worth having?

vise 1 Barlows Tackle Shop: Browsing Terra Rotary Vise - Imported

vise 2 TERRA TOOLS "LOOK-A-LIKE" VISE...9 14:35:33 PDT)

vise 3 Danvise Rotary Fly Tying Vise New w/ DVD* - eBay (item 140348151437 end time Oct-24-09 12:26:56 PDT)

vise 4 Barlows Tackle Shop: Browsing Terra Rotating Spring Action Vise - Imported

Any probably will beat the gander mountain one I have now from thier fly tying kit I really want to stay sub $100 if possible Rotary seems to me a good idea

Will not need such a stout base with Danvise and it is mostly plastic. Jaws metal, but all the rest is composite or plastic.

Can't tell you a thing about the others, but maybe you should look at some studies? Neither is new, but still good info on a vise and would waste my time looking and guessing. Or just ask people that know.

Those look like some nice vises Rodney, sorry I do not know anything about any of them. It can get confusing. I use one I bought a long time ago at Barlow's Tackle, only spend about $20 and it does me fine and I have tied a gazillion jigs with it. If you are into tying complicated flies then you really need one that rotates more than the one I have so it would cost more. I got one for my Sis a while ago and only spent about $15 and she loves it. But, there again, we only are tying Crappie jigs and do not require all the rotation that more expensive vises will do. Both ours are all metal parts, I might shy away from vises made of plastic clamping parts. But, what do I know. noidea

Good luck in your decision. I am sure there are some on here that are familiar with some of those you mentioned. Maybe they can give you advise.

Does anyone have any feed back on the Regal? I like what I see but have never seen one except on the net. Was wondering how well they really hold.

I'm with her!! I have been tying for years, and use a cheap old vice that I've tied 100's if not 1000's of jigs on. It's all about preference, but unless you are gonna be sitting in front of that Vice all the time, or you just like the finer things, the cheap ones work just fine. Of course, I don't tie flies, or anything that might require all sorts of angles, or whatever. That may make a more functional vice worth some $$. If you are just wanting to tie a few jigs, I wouldn't spend a bunch of money. I'd spend my $ on jig heads, feathers, chenille, thread, more chenille, jigheads, feathers, etc. You might find yourself liking the different colors and stuff. With $100.00 I'd spend 25.00 on the vice, and the other 75.00 will get you really put together as far as feathers and chenille.

I broke a cheap one that came in one of them kits from Bass Pro after tying about 40 or 50 jigs on it so I went out and put down a whopping $15 on a new one and that works just fine for me. Here’s the one I use. It does have a clamp on it. To save you some hassle and dirty looks from the wife, I clamp mine to a T.V. tray that way I watch the teleo and tie at the same time.

Bass Pro Shop has a $19.99 vise with clamp and it also rotates. You can also buy a base to set it on for $14.99. It is not the best vise in the world but great for starting out. I have been tying small jigs for bream on mine and very happy with it.
The brand name is Fishnet and has a picture of a jumping bass on the box.
