I got tired of having to mess with headlamps or flashlights for fishing out of my boat at night so I rigged this up.

I took a normal household extension cord and cut the male end off and added ring connectors so as to put them on the 12volt battery for the trolling motor.

I bought 1 1/4" sch40 PVC and made a frame that would fit inbetween my Center Console using two of my Rod holders as the holder for the light rig.

I then purchased two clamp style work lights and two 12volt 50w bulbs in the RV section at Walmart. Once it was all hooked up it looks like this.

Daytime photos do this no justice. When I fish at night now it's like daylight out to 25 feet all around the boat. I usually run one light in front and one out back with the room to add two more should I choose.

I wanted to keep it all 12v. I experimented with a converter and found the battery died sooner and with the compact flor bulbs the converter did'nt have the oompf to fire them off. I've used the rig as it is now for 45 hours use time and it's still running bright as ever.

Nice job, I'll have to take some pictures of my setup and show you. I got it way up high to keep the bugs up there.

This is great, good design but you need to put a label or sort of indicate that the socket of the power cord now is 12v DC!, It is not 120v AC. Don't ever make a mistake to connect 120v power to that new extension cord. The 12v battery will be damaged.

Good luck and be safe.

Im looking forward to putting a T-top on the boat soon with a set of LEDs but I had to make due with my PVC rig for now.

I think your current rig is better than LEDs on a T-top.

Think twice before you put a T-Top on there...once you've thought twice think about it twice more.

In my opinion, which is worth the paper it is written on, T-Tops don't have a place on anything but an offshore boat. They especially don't have a place on a boat less than about 22-24ft.

They don't provide all that much useable shade. The only real advantage is an elevated position for antennas, rods, lights, etc.

The down side is they get in the way of EVERYTHING. No more low bridge clearance, no more casting, be prepared to drift faster.

I had one on my boat and usually leave it off except for a couple months a year in the summer when I fish the coast alot.

Just a thought.....on my ex-catfishing boat (now the ex's boat lol) I bought 10-12 red led tractor trailer marker lights - about 1" tall and 3" long and ganged them along (under on my boat) the rail down both sides and put a couple on the center console as well. Made for plenty of light to fish by without calling every bug on the lake - always heard that red light does not degrade your night vision as badly as well.

They are very cheap and sure worked well - I think I saw some the other day that had 'shields' to keep the light shining in the direction you prefer.

Didn't help any with the cabin cruisers though.....

Agree on the t-top - great place to store stuff but even on my 22" er it made it much harder to fish out of - always had to look out on your casts and it's no fun when the winds really blowing.

I'll keep the tips in mind. The one that I've got my eye on is custom fabricated to take down and out for travel or non-use.
