can I burn these with a propane weed burner to kill the seeds?

I'm wanting to get some grass going next spring but these things are taking over...also have crabgrass to get rid of.

You can burn them or drag a burlap sack around the yard to pick up the seeds.

The most effective way to get rid of crabgrass is the old fashioned way. Go out and dig each head of crabgrass up then toss in the trash ot burn it. DO NOT dig it up and leave it in the yard.

Bad soil equals weeds. Sad but true. Check out this article on grass burrs.

(Just an aside. Story has nothing to do with the thread.)

As a freshman in college I played some flag football one afternoon. We won. We were the skins. Hot, sweat, and shirtless I was running back to the dorm, tripped, and did a somersault in a bed of those burrs. I had burrs stuck in me from my forehead to my back side. Head, shoulders, and back covered in those sticky little devils. It was a painful introduction to Texas.

half of my front yard was covered in crab and dallis grass, I wasn't going to spend the time to dig up each one so I rented a sod cutter and cut out the front half of my yard, then put down st. augustine squares. Easiest way for me.

Foremans in Colleyville has Corn Gluten meal. That stuff is as high as fertilizer. It's a little late to put it out as a pre-emergent, but you can do it in the spring.

Kingfisher - great idea

I don't really know where "planet earth" is, fudruker, but if you are in the Dallas area find an Elliotts Hardware and pick up some Hi-Yield Super Concentrate Killzall weed and grass killer. Its made up in Bonham, Texas. I'll tell ya this, I really like everything Howard Garrett teaches about gardening, BUT! Sometimes my patience wear a tad thin and I'll break out this sort of thing to speed things along. It only works on 'green and growing' stuff. What I plan on doing with my yard along about February when the weeds, Dallis grass, dandelion and such crank it up, its killing time. One of our neighbors WON'T help out the cause and his weed seeds keep blowing into our yard, well, I'm breaking out the heavy artillery on those weeds this winter and I'M GONNA WIN!!!!

Thanks Jerrybign, I'm in Lubbock I've seen that Hi-Yield brand around here somewhere I'll just have to remember where. It's gonna be tough on me because we built a house in the middle of a pasture that has not been touched in years.

Yep just burn it. It will get them and you shouldn't have much of a problem once you get your grass started.
