How often do you guy's change your braid? With the cost of it I don't change very often. Does it ever go bad? I have some that has been spooled for over 2 years.

Get a magic marker (Marks O Lot) and color the faded area. One company claims to be fade proof. Can't remember who it is.

i've had it spooled forever....honestly tho what's the big deal if it fades? If you feel you need to respool just take it off and put it on another reel so what has been used is now on the bottom of the spool not getting much action!

If it started to look frayed or too fuzzy near the lure eye (hook) cut off some and re-tire. Also reverse it when it starts to look old, like he said. I do that all the time. Also, buy the larger spools and you will get a better value.

A buddy of mine on the fire department has had braid spooled on his flipping/pitching rod for so long, that the line actually feels soft to the touch! eeks

He doesn't break fish off on it though even now.

i have had a few rods spooled for multiple years and fish lakes like falcon and choke with no break off, i use power pro and power pro only, my slogan for their line is bring the tree in with you.

Like krazyjay, I have reels that have braid that is several years old. I will check it out periodically to be sure that it is still strong. I keep a dark green Marks-a-lot with a cut in the tip in my boat. Snap the line into the cut and darken the line.

When I'm fishing clear water, I tie a mono or flourocarbon leader on with a blood knot. Works great. The knot takes a little practice, but once you learn how to make it take up, it works very well.

The strength of braid is what amazes me. More than once I've had my fishing partner get hung up at the back of the boat, and suddenly find the boat out of position because he is pulling the boat towards his lure! Strong enough to pull a 21ft bass boat without breaking or straining, that's some serious fishing line! lol

may be able? more like you will!! i've pulled up crappie rigs that had concrete filled buckets to sink them from teh bottom of the lake HAHA. the bad part is when you get hung up on a tree branch you then have to figure out what to do with the branch because it's coming in too!

My buddy has pulled in 5 boat anchors downriggin @ Calaveras this year. We were out there this past Sunday and he pulled in a 14" tire near the pier. Plain and simple if your rod, reel, hook & knot will handle it. You can pullin whatever you're hung on. 80# Power Pro braid is what he has on all his Abu 7000I's and they are WINCHES for sure. I use 65# braid on almost all my reels and all my wifes' Bass Fishing reels have 20# Braid on them. Aint lost a fish yet @ Choke because of line failure, but I have lost 1 BIG Fish because the hook straightened out.

How many of you fish around Rocks alot? I fish g-vine which has alot of rock and find my braid gets fraied quickly and to me becomes more of a pain. Now, When fishing non-rocky areas it's great and lasts forever but around rocks I can't stand it. Lost to many because I don't like to retie braid.

Add a shock leader 24-36" or so of GOOD Mono or Flouro with a Uni-Uni or Blood Knot or with a Swivel like a C-Rig & that should get your braid out of the rocks and save ya some heartache.
