BLT Press Release....
"The angler was asked to remove the contents in the stomach of the bass or the contents would be inspected by BLT officials by whatever means possible. The angler chose to remove the contents and a lead weight was removed from inside the fish and handed to a tournament official. The angler then apologized to all who witnessed the removal of the lead weight."
The kicker will be....if the story in the press release is correct. The angler was asked to remove the contents.....The angler chose to remove.....
If he removed the contents after being given the option then you can look at that as an admission of guilt....if there was no coersion. Just a thought. It's not coercion to be given an ultimatum. What if they threatened to get a search warrant? Is that really a threat? They were simply offering him an opportunity to begin cooperating. Believe me, if there is a trial, every previous tournament will hav a question regarding his integrity. They don't have to charge him, just imply so this charge sticks and the punishment is harsher. They use the idea that if he did it now, then he must have always donei t. Once you remove that "presumption" of innocence with his intent this one time, then he is burdened with a whole lot more explaining to do. etc, etc.

More than likely he will recieve nothing more than a hard slap, maybe some community service work, especially since he never recieved his winnings.
Best thing though is he will be banned from the fishing community for the remainder of his life as well as lose his self made fame from some of his admirers as well as his sponsorhips.
He gets what he deserves which is my pity for a cheater.

off the topic, you texans are so lucky to have so much water to fish nearby. nearest big lake is a 3hrs drive from tucson. What up Vu? You desert rat lol. There aren't many Texas lakes as small as Tucsons Patagonia. Where you have to shut down your motor after getting on plane so you don't hit the oppposite shore line lol. Things are just bigger here in Texas! PS you and Tai should come out to Fork.

They have pictures of the evidence. Play along. Are you 100% positive that it was his fish that was taken from the tank? Was there a positive chain of custody? Those pictures don't look real accurate? Remember the Lawyers can twist anything. And when you are on the jury you are instructed to consider the factual evidence. Like the post mentioned above, a good shyster lawyer can twist anything! So, "Guys don't be disappointed if thy ain't no Lynchin' at the OK Corral Boat Ramp." "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I contend that the photos of the fish and the lead weight have been PHOTO-SHOPPED!
A person could make that bass look like "HOGZILLA" if they were of such a mind!
I DEMAND the immediate dismissal of all charges against my client, reinstatement of all prizes and awards and 50 million dollars punative damages against those that have sullied this fine sportsman's reputation!"
(dontchaa just love uhhh fired up lawyer!)

How many other fish weighed 10#'s in the tank? 0 the only other fish Saturday that was over 5# was Mike's 7.48 in the last hour and RR was gone by then. thats a negative ghostrider...we weighed a 5.77 for an hourly win. There were no fish bigger than that one but Mikes and Tims...I'm just sayin' sorry Weber I was thinking you won the previous hour.

I was not there but if you start thinking about how to defend yourself. At what point did he loose contact with his fish after weight in. There is going to have to be a time line made. The "I don't know what you guys did to my fish" defence could me made Nope...not is the tournament director has a set plan and can describe it in detail. He made an unsolicited comment on the stage, and on his web site. That is VERY compelling. You don't apologize for somethingyou didn't do.

I've seen bass clubs, forums etc from over 7 different states who are posting about this subject.
Each one has a different set of facts but they all seem to be on the same subject.

I have never heard of this guy, and do not follow the local tournament scene, I'm kind of amazed how many people on here do. The only way I could see him saving any kind of face in this situation would be dedicating the rest of his life to helping law enforcement catch bass tourney cheaters in the future. After all he was one of the best at getting away with it, no doubt theres alot of useful knowledge to be learned from this man.

wonder if his poker buddies will prohibit him from playing because hes a cheat/liar/thief. Quite possibly his "senior body building" competitions will prohibit him from playing as well. His poor family has to walk around with thier heads held in shame.... what a dufus!

I have read most of this thread but don't remember the wt of the fish he weighed in. If you knocked the 1 lb off how much would he have won? I am just thinking if he had not gotten so greedy he probably would have gotten away with it

500, and a second place finish on his resume. IF he hadnt let his ego and greed step in... BUT! whos to say the dang fish even came from Ray Hubbard??? that we will never know, he had intentions to cheat or else he woulnt have had a 16ounce wieght in his boat! wonder if he brought it, or BOUGHT it at bass pro that day ??? makes one wonder? if he paid for it with a credit card it would be easy to trace there would probably even be a video of him paying for it thats only IF he bought it at bass pro on that day...

I was kind of assuming that the fish probably wasn't caught in the tournament either....Years ago there tons of rumors of people catching fish and putting wts in their stomaches, this doesn't really surprise me....One has to figure that putting that big of a wt in the fish would cause him problems....That means he had more than 10% of his wt in lead...how about if one of us had 15-20# of lead put into our stomaches, maybe this could be part of the punishment for him doing this

As I have been reading through all of these comments for the past few days trying to think of something to add to this that has not already been said this thought has come to mind.
It has been mentioned that he is a poker player and a gambler. I wonder if he got in debt in a bad way with a really bad person and was trying to pay off the gambling debts before his "legs got broke"? Just like Nate Newton being busted for transporting drugs, I think it came out that he was in debt deep with someone bad.
I know i fished against Robby a few times in tournaments over the years and one tournament in particular where we had the best day of fishing we ever had and was leading up until two minutes to go then he appeared with a sack pretty much doubling ours as we were sitting in second place and the leaders which were didn't have that much more than we did. I have spent the past year in a half in awe that this guy had such a giant sack by himself and getting up on stage professing his faith. I was in awe of this as a fisherman having fun, learning and actually drawing a small check which is far and few between. Then after this disgrace, I started thinking back on that day and things are becomming alot clearer now.

A few of you guys have mentioned he likes to gamble, maybe he got in debt from bad bets and had to do something to pay back his bookie…. Remember the football coach from Mesquite a year or so ago that was pawning school equipment to cover his arse????
You beat me to it as I was typing. Great minds think alike! LOL

Tommy, it might not be a bad idea to turn his waypoints over to athourities. He probably has waypoints of where all his bass were tied up in the past????
