first off, chunking crank baits is a new thing for me, and i just wonder how yall keep track of how deep each crank goes, i probably have 15 different crank baits that are made to go anywhere for 4 ft to 18ft, but i forget how deep each one goes, what do u do to keep track of that?
also, i hear people talkin about carolina riggin a jerbait, seems like it would work to me, but when u do that, do u chunk it out, let it sink and then reel it it with some speeed, or just kind of drag it?

Great idea Chris! I haven't tried that one. I usually keep them seperated by model and depth in my Falcon FTO box.
On the c-rig jerkbait, I'm not sure what you are talking about, but are the others talking about a c-rigging a fluke? That is the first thing I thought of and in that case, I just fish it like I do most other c-rigged baits. Coach

I like to take a fine tip sharpie and write it on the underside of the lip. It will normally last longer than I can keep the bait. I do the EXACT same thing on all baits except 1.5's. I have a box full of 1.5's and I know their running depth's, but all others get marked with a sharpie (if you look at wal-mart or any craft store, they make a "cd/photo" marker. the ink doesnt come off like it would on a regular sharpie).

I am a spaz looking at tackle all the time on the internet and in stores, so I typically and pretty educated on the ones I buy and just remember how deep they go.
I havent been fishing them that long, but you start to get a feel just by looking at the body vs the lip size on about how deep they run.

Look at the bill. The longer the bill, the deeper running the crankbait goes. I try not to do anything on a straight cast it out and wind it in type presentation. I like to stop baits and let them suspend for a few or let them float up or just plain kill it. If you C-Rig a Jerk Bait, make sure it's not a sinking one or you are going to lose it quick. I personally would rather use a fluke.

I guess that I am the CB NUT! I organize my 3600 and 3700 boxes according to running depth. I have boxes for shallow/mid/deep depths and also the same for wooden baits, as well. Of course, I have been doing this for quite a while, so I have WAY TOO MANY!
Follow what KingwoodCat said. The bigger (longer) the bill, the deeper it will run. My boxes (unless I am going with someone) are filled with baits that rund less than 4', then 4' to 6', then 6' to 12' and then 12'+. Normally, I keep the wood (silent) baits seperate from the plastic baits, but not when I go with someone else.
IMPORTANAT POINT!!!!!
When you find a bait that just flat out cahthes the others, MAKR IT and do not combine it with all of the others. These are THE or MONEY CBs and they are the ones that David Fritts wouldn't sell for $1000 each.
A friend and I did a test on 100 baits to prove Fritts wrong, that out of 100 baits, you got 5 to 10 that worked better or ran deeper or truer. Well, after over 60,000 casts, we found the ones we wanted. LOL.
Here is alink to a series of articles that I wrote, if you want a little more knowledge on CBs. My article numbers are 163, 164, 165 and 171. The first one is identifying characteristics of CBs, the 2nd is modifications, thrid is techniques and the forth is a little how too.

Regarding fishing a C-Rig jerk bait. I haven't done it but I think I'll try it. The one thing the pros always emphasize is to pause the bait for as long as you can take it....they say the big majority of your bites will come on the pause....so I think I'll chunk one out using a one oz weight and about a two foot leader and just sweep it a couple of feet, then let it pause for a few seconds. I've got a ton of them that I would use like that because I bought some Lucky Craft Pointers that I'll use when fishing the jerk bait the standard way and wouldn't be too upset to lose some doing the C-Rig method.

For all of those that have PM'ed me.
I did not put a direct link up to each of my articles, but to the BFHP Articles board. You can then scroll to whatever one you want to read and click on it. You can highlight the url by putting your mouse pointer on it (the link or url address) and holding the left button down and scrolling over the entire link. This will highlight the link and you can then hit the right button and hit COPY. Go to your Address bar and put this link into it (right click PASTE) and hit enter. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all of the comments.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I use the sharpie method too. Or, just keep the back part of the package that shows what depth it runs and put it in the box with the bait.

I bought all H2Os since I didn't have any crankbaits, and that's what I did. Just cut the back part off and put in the slot with the bait. However, it won't be long before I won't need it I don't think. Already starting to know which one runs how deep and haven't even used them that much.

The H2O's are great baits, I just started using them also. Squat bill in sexy shad is killer.
