We got so many lakes down here that has miles of timber and I have to be honest I rarely even fish. But I know fish are in there. I've caught some huge crappie but never seem find were the bass are. My Dad visiting here next week and always ask me why don't we fish all that timber. The main reason I tell him i don't want the boat to get messed up and we hit a stump or something. I know there's got to be somebody on here that fish timber field alot and maybe can give me a few pointers. I think you have to fish all vertical . Maybe something like a drop shot rig with 10 iinch worm or weedless wacky worm pegged with weights in worm body.

I personally like to fish crank baits in a timber flat. Look for grass lines, drop offs, creek channels, humps and dips. Just look for something different than the norm in the area. If you can follow a ridge or creek channel then go to the jigs, soft plastics, etc. Hope this helps and I'm sure some of the gurus will jump in.

Also like cranks and spinnerbaits as well, especially this time of year. An Arkie-style flipping jig with a solid, heavy wire hook is also perfect for working the bottom around submerged stumps and fallen timber. As said above, look for the underlying structure. Bass will still relate to it even in all that timber.

yeah...find the flats and the creek edges and sharp drops in depth....the best your going to find is going to be at least a decent sized flat with a creek running along it....or thats always the best for me
