Hi, I am new to the area and I live real close to eagle mountian and thought I would be happy fishing but almost everytime I go out I catch 1 fish around 4 lbs to 5 lbs and 1 or 2 14-15 inch fish most of the time along with a lot of small fish. I am not trying to complain but is this normal for lakes in this area. My home lake was sam rayburn and I know that its not apples to apples but just trying to get a feel for the area lakes. I am also looking at ray roberts and I will take any advice I can get on area lakes. Thanks

Seriously, EM is one of the most inconsistent lakes you will ever fish

It seems to be from what I can tell. I have had fun fishing it but I am looking for some more productive / consistent water in the area. Grapevine,roberts...? Thanks

I think you will find that there are a lot of pretty good fish in EM. I fished several evening tournaments this summer and it seemed to always take 15 plus to win and 10 to 13 to get a check. Doesn't seem too bad. I wish it had some grass and wood to add some variety though.

60fordtruck,

I thought the same thing, when I moved up here from Rayburn.

I drive around EM, for 2 days looking for grass and trees, all I could find were those boat docks.

It's a very fickle lake, and most of the time you will catch a lot of fish, and get 1 or 2 nice ones mixed in.

The closest lakes around here in my opinion that compare to Rayburn would be Hubbard Creek in Breckenridge or Lake Fork.

Grass and wood would be nice on em, it would feel a little like home to me. 3-5 fish at 15lbs total isn't bad! I will keep at it on em and visit some of the other lakes real soon. I would like to know a little more about the location of Hubbard creek I think I will try to roll over there. Just a little more work on my part should help. Thanks guys

To get to Hubbard Creek take HWY 180 out of Weatherford and stay on it until you get to Breckenridge, it will take you about an hour and half, I would guess.

Go through Breckenridge on 180 and you will run into Hubbard Creek.

Hubbard Creek has it all

Hydrilla, Docks, pepper grass, standing timber, rocks, salt cedars

Clear water, and off colored water.

not really, just EM eats his lunch, when he goes out there.

One day he might put down the fairy wand, and pick up a crank bait. thumb

EM is actually a good lake with great quality of fish in it, however the patterns change from day to day. The lake also gets alot of pressure and has a tournament of some kind every week. I use to feel the same way about the lake untill I spent alot of time on the water. I have fished with several guy's on that lake and seen alot of big fish caught, and caught big fish myself. Just put mone time on the water and it will pay off for you, I promise. Docks and rock.

Stop bashing on the mountain. Take the size of the lake and the fact it gets more pressure than just about any other lake in dfw into consideration. Yet it takes a sack to win almost everytime out there. Its no different than anywhere else. To consistently have success you have to put in the time on the water. Try going out there with an open mind and it will pay off.

Sounds like a good day to me...

Eagle Mountain is a good lake it just takes lots of time to find spots that consistently produce.

Definately agree if you put the time in on EM it will become more consistent. And hey if you strike out on the bass you can always have a good fight with a big ol' drum... bang

I guess I am in the minority...I love Eagle Mountain...I would trade Hubbard for it anyday...May not always catch big ones but never get skunked...Can't say that for some other lakes...
