Press Release: 2010 Carp Angling World Championship Venue Changed to Caney Creek

Oct 18, 2009 - by Dán Nôrcev

For immediate release Oct 18, 2009

Bartlesville OK – In a stunning development, it was announced today that the 2010 Carp Angling World Championship will be moved to Caney Creek in southeast Texas. Originally scheduled for Lac Madine (France), tournament organizers felt that this Gallic lake's world-record-class carp would not provide a test worthy of the today's top carp anglers. Organizers believe that the new venue will draw twice as many anglers as had been expected at the original location.

Caney Creek is a small, brackish river located about 50 miles south of Houston. Filled with gar, redfish, smallmouth buffalo and numerous other fresh and saltwater species, Caney Creek is paradoxically thought to contain fewer carp than any body of water in the southern half of the United States. Local anglers have been known to fish for carp in this river for up to three years before giving up and seeking an easier venue. Tournament participants can expect to face some of the world's toughest carp fishing conditions.

The CAWC will be under the direction of David Moore of CARP Tournament Series. The well-known expert American carp angler was instrumental in bringing a similar competition to the St. Lawrence in 2005 which netted the region a half-million dollar boost in lodging, restaurant and other revenues over 10 days of competition. Nearby Sargent, TX is expected to see an even greater boost to its economy.

“We couldn’t be happier to come to Caney Creek for this prestigious tournament,” says Moore. “The opportunity for participants to catch the first carp in the history of Caney Creek is expected to to be a great draw."

The prize pool has not been finalized, but in tradition with this type of competition it is expected that large cash prizes and vehicles will be offered to the winners. Registration information will be released in early April.
