Scupper Hole Plug Ideas

I tried using practice golf balls to plug the scupper holes in my kayak, but they didn't work. The scuppoer holes on my OK Scrambler XT are oblong, not round. I even tried stuffing two balls in each hole, and they held back the water for the first 20 minutes, but soon the yak was as wet as ever.
Does anyone have any oher suggestions for plugs for this kayak?

Take a pool noodle and cut it down to size.

Shane...won't pool noodle foam let the water through?
I actually thought about using the foam in a can stuff from Home Depot. I was going to make an oblong shaped mold out a paper towel roll (or something) and spray the foam in there, let it harden and then cut the paper away and stuff the plug into the hole. But, like the noodle, is that stuff really water proof?
I wonder if OK makes plugs for the XT. I'll check out Mtn Sports.

Picked up scupper stoppers for my OK Scrambler at Academy. Three sizes to choose from, mediums worked fine.

The brand new Academy, which is less than a mile from my house (Keller, Texas), doesn't have any kind of scupper hole plugs at all. I found a stress ball kind of thing, and went to the XT on display at the store to test it out, and was surprised to see that the Scrambler XTs on sale there had round scupper holes, unlike my oblong ones. Hate it when that happens.

What would be the downside of plugging your scupper holes?

The down side would be if you were In water that was rough like ocean surf. Then the kayak would fill up with water and not drain.

What would be the downside of plugging your scupper holes? I've got a homemade dolly that uses the scupperholes. Two pieces of pvc attached to an axle go thru the holes.

If you use the expanding foam, make sure you do it in layers. The sidewalls of the scuppers are some the thinnest on your kayak. If you were to plug it up and try to cap the foam off, you'll end up blowing the walls out of the scuppers.
I've used Foam Golf balls, Rubber plugs, Ocean's Scupper plugs, and pool noodle. The best were the foam golf balls, but basically, I just gave up. Seemed everytime I fished, I was fighting the wind and waves. Just get a good set of waders for the cooler months, and a dry suit for every thing else.

Yep just get some waders for when it's cold. And when it's warm who cares if you get wet!

I followed Dave's advice and got some waders, so I'm not too concerned about the scupper holes anymore. But I do need to get out and test those waders. Can't wait for this weekend.
