We went down Saturday night and caught a five fish stringer of Bull Reds that easily went 150 lbs or more. . . all CPR'd. Lost 2x more than we caught. . . . once we had them dialed-in it was all over. 8-10" piggy perch, with the dorsal fins cut off on 12/0 circle hooks under a 4 oz egg sinker was the ticket.

get down there and hold on!!!!

They are everywhere since the water temps dropped.

I am headed down there to Port A October 23rd-25th.

Did you catch these from the shore or a boat? If the shore, can you tell me where?

Thanks,
Burnt Orange Redfish

Holy Cow! Nice fish. I'll be there Oct 16 weekend. Ya'll catch your own piggies there at the jetties? Looks like ya'll were night fishing? Nice Pics. I'm jealous.

My brother and I arrived at the port a jetties @ 6pm Friday. Caught 4 slot reds before dark. Other people around us were also catching. We saw 3 or 4 bull reds at the fish cleaning table. A few guys caught them from their boat.

Went back this morning and got skunked. I hooked a fish, and had him for a second, but didn't set the hook in time. I Didn't see anyone catching anything. We'll be back after the Tx-Ou game.

Was the red tide bad around the jetties? Heading to that area Tuesday. Trying to figure out a gameplan.

when we left sat am...the fish kill started from the south side of the south jetty all the way past the caldwell pier...dont know about san jose island or the north jetty..we caught most of our fish last week on tues-thurs...then the front hit friday and the wind/surf made it really hard to fish...it was later on in the day when the dead fish started to show up on the beach and in the surf...

nice fish YYZ. I'm headed back down this friday. Wondering how the fishing is going. Last time I was there, Sat 10/17/09 afternoon, everyone was catching slot reds at Port A jetties - surf side.

The reds still thick in there? How's the weather? We're having lots of rain in Austin.

We're in PortA this weekend Nov6, no red tide. Front is in, and it's rainy. Catching up on email and forum posts....

Did you guys catch the piggy perch with a castnet or did you buy them from the bait shop?

Thanks

caught the piggy perch off a pier w/ small pieces of squid on little freshwater bait hooks (we'd rig 2 or 3 hooks per line)
