My grandfather passed away today at 83. He took me fishing from the time I was old enough to walk until I went off to college. I will always smile when I think of spending hours in that little aluminum john boat eating bologna sandwiches and catching lots of crappie and smallmouth bass.
If you catch a fish in the next few days dedicate it to my grandpa. He was a heck of a guy.
I lost my dad(fishing partner) several years ago. Times like these remind us to be a Dad or Grandad type mentor to a young outdoorsman. At the risk of being too philosphical, you rarely see a kid go bad that has been involved in the outdoors with a respected loved one.

Along with my father, my grandfather (on my mother's side) is fully responsible for instilling the love of fishing and the outdoors in me from a very young age.
I wish he were still around to fish with, but honestly, he'd probably be extremely confused at why I now only target carp lol.
Sorry about your loss, Mike. Both of my grandfathers were avid fishermen and one even fished for carp. Some of my best childhood memories center around fishing with them.
