Have come out in droves after all this rain. Amdro just makes the mounds move, what's the best way to treat the whole yard?

We get those raid baits every year at the dollar store. Each year the ants eventually get wise to the poison traps and I have to alter tactics. This year I shoved the baits into the piles to agitate the ants into attacking. Eventually the ants flee the piles. I kept an eye on them and crushed the queens. it was something to do........

I'll add that I left the piles out by the garden as they helped me keep other critters away from my peppers and okra and what not.

I just put down "SEVEN" or something like that on the yard. My father in law swears by it. With all the rain recently and wet grounds, its making the ants move to the surface.

trying to take the boogers down after rain sucks...

football practice back in highschool was terrible during and right after rain... everyone on the dang team had 50+ bites it seemed. that was terrible

The best way to treat ants and get rid of them, not just move them is simple...Pots and pots of boiling hot water...I spent 8 hours back in June of 2004 pouring pots of boiling water on over 50 ant beds....I had 3 come back...

Oh and when you pour the water on the mound, do it slowly, don't just throw it on there...

Cheap, satisfying, and very effective; although a bit tedious...

That sounds like a great idea, LSS!

I'll throw in a suggestion... this would be a great time to bust out the turkey frier. Boil a huge pot, and use a smaller one as a dipper.

I forgot to mention, DO NOT use this method on ant beds near trees (especially small ones) as you'll damage the roots...Also, you will lose some grass around the ant beds, but since it's going to be winter soon, just fertilize in the spring and it won't be a problem....

Amdro for mounds to me is the best but it takes a little while to work. For the whole yard I put out one of the "once and done" type products at Home Depot and I rarely have any ant issues.

I'll 2nd the Orthene, smells like all heck but it works. Nudge the mound a tad and throw on a tablespoon or so....BAM, those suckers are gone.

I swear by prevention, I use the over and out every year. It's about 20 bucks a bag, but when I use it I usually don't see any beds pop up after any rains. If I do, I use the Orthene. My FIL gave me stuff the company he used to work for sold and it didn't work nearly as well as Orthene.

as soon as the ground dries a bit go out with a stick/hoe what ever and some orthene bust the mound to expose the eggs and sprinkle some orthene over them and say bye bye to the ants
