i have dropped in at the 16 bridge and done the 20 miles down to rochells. I want to fish 16 going north. I seen cars parked there and know people yak around that area. I just want to do a day trip.
1. is it hard to yak up stream 16 and going towards the dam?
2. if i dont take my yak, can i just wade up?
3. how far is it up from 16 to the dam
4. how is the fishing in that area(s)?

I plan on fly and spin fishing. I appreciate any information. justin

You will probably have to get out and drag uptream through several rapids & a pipe or 2, if you try to get to the dam from 16 bridge - the water moves pretty fast through most of that stretch.

If you turn in by the fish hatchery (just east of the 16 bridge)and drive to the end of that road you can park there close to the dam. If you are tough you can carry your yak down a very steep slope, 50 ft maybe? There is a drain pipe right there that has concrete down (pretty good traction) to a little finger that comes out right at the Do Not Cross Cable by the dam.

I think it may be to deep to wade up to the damn. It is easier to just paddle upstream. If I remember correctly, you have to paddle over a pipe and a fallen tree.

Although I've never done it, I hear you can paddle upstream to the Do Not Cross cable , but as mentioned earlier, you'll have to walk your yak thru some rapids and over a large pipe of some kind. I believe it's about a half mile from the bridge to the damn.

I personally would't try hauling my yak down the rocks by the damn as also mentioned earlier. Although I suppose that if you're looking for some adventure, that's one way to get it.
