i'm wanting to try the beer batter on some catfish. can anyone tell me how ?

Beer batters are pretty basic.

Start with this and adjust the seasonings to your liking.


1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 cup DARK beer
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
2 pounds fish
vegetable oil for frying

Corn starch or more flour for dry dredging.

Mix all ingrediants cept the corn starch in a big bowl.

I like to pat dry my fish first and then sprinkle some chacherees on em. Then I dust them in the dry corn starch or flour, shake off excess then into wet batter then into the oil. The dry dusting helps the wet batter adhere to the fish. Fry between 350 and 375 degrees and avoid crowding the pot.

Not for me, but I would certainly roll it in some panko after the dip in batter.

corn meal is not what i think of as beer batter. beer batter is more along the lines of fish and chips, or long john silver, no corn meal for me. an easy quick beer batter that gets the job done for a big fish fry is uncle bucks at bass pro, but home made like mentioned above, cant be beat.

Yall are nuts. Beer batter is flour and beer.

1 cup flour, 1 cup beer. Season it how you want. Oil temp is key as you dont want soggy fillets. Do a small test peice. I like mine about 375. I do crappie so it cooks fast.

exactly how i make mine..........cant go wrong and..............if you want you can add some corn meal....i do and it works great!!!
