my father-in-law and i tried nails creek today for crappie. we paddled from nails creek state park up the creek to the bridge and back with no luck. it was a misty wet kayak adventure and the day ended with no fish and cold feet. good luck tomorrow it looks like the weather will be better.

I would like to start a annual get together at Nails Creek State park where kayakers and other boaters gather for an orientation of the fishing opportunities in the creeks. Any volunteers to help me? I can get the pavilion for the day right next to the boat ramp.
I love kayaking in this weather..if you have a sit on top kayak get some scupper plugs. If you have a sit in kayak, the only water that should get in if the drip from your paddle.
I only bring my kayak out this time of year. Bad thing is last year I bought a new sit on top and we didn't get any rain . This year looks a lot better.. Hopefully I'll see yall out in the creeks.
I'm thinking the second Saturday in January (9th) for the Nails creek park get-together. How about a early morning pancake breakfast before heading out to the creeks for the day and a regrouping late in the afternoon for the follow-up BS session and a fish fry .. Bring your kayak, canoe, jon boat or whatever and a friend. If anyone has a open seat on their boat maybe we can fill it with a bank beater or kid.

I myself can see a good year this year on the Yegua creek. If we continue to receive a little rain here and there then it should produce enough current flow to bring a lot of fish up into the creek early this year. I need to make a early run out that way just to see what I can come up with. The trick to fishing for whites this time of the year is to use a little heaver jigs, fish it in the deeper pockets, and slow roll it across the bottom. Once you find where they are stacked up, you can load up on those babies. Some times you even have to use a bobber, set it deep enough to get it real close to the bottom and let it drift down stream slowly, giving it a very little twitch every now and then to trigger a strike. All you will see on your bobber is one little tap like a perch nibble, set the hook and the fight is on. A little george seems to work well early in the season too. I prefer to use the Marabou jig in the chartreuse tail with a yellow head. In the past at this time of the year it has produced a better bite for me. A red head jig with a yellow tail skirt works good too. Last years white bass fishing was just awful for me. I am more than ready for a good year this year. Hope to see a lot of you out there this year with good stringers.
How's this sound for the event. 7AM until 10AM pancake breakfast and social.
>>>>go fishing>>>>>> start and stop as you please
4PM until 6PM fish fry and social.
If anyone wants to demo a skill, craft or talent just bring it on! I'll have the Park Staff and maybe a Game Warden available for question and answer sessions and the Partners of Nails Creek Park support group, some Boy Scouts and ALL THE TFF'ers
