Is the value of the rod and reel even worth the hassell of locating it? If so, there is a guy here on the forum that is a recovery diver. He located and recovered an relatively expensive rod and reel for me. Jons3825 is his TFF name. Shoot him a pm to get information.

Super strong magnet tied to a 3/6" dia. nylon rope. You can drage it back and forth and maybe get lucky. Harbor Freight sells a magnet that would work.

make a large heavy steel treble hook(2 or 3 pounds)...it should be about 8 or 10inch dia... on a long rope, throw it out and drag slowly.... points of hooks should be digging in to the bottom. If you've covered the bottom in one direction then move over to cover it again at a right angle. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hey guys, I'm not trying to push Jons on you all but..... I had a brand new Shimano Cumara (one day old) with a Revo SX on it go over board. So do the math, a $250 rod and a $169 reel not including tax. It would hurt to have to replace it just because it went over the edge. Jons came out to my place, we went to the lake, I took him to where the rod went over, and he found it. I did have a waypoint marked where it went over. It only took him 6 mins to find my rod and reel (your results may vary). For his services, it was well worth my time. I could have spent hours out there looking for a rod that was in about the same depth. I tried all of the suggested ideas with the exception of a few. Sorry but they are for the most part a waist of time. You can't beat someone swimming around on the bottom of the lake. It was well worth for him to get my setup back.

Rare Earth MAgnet on GOOD rope, or the good ole coat hanger grappling hook.
I would try those over a DD22 if only for the small size of the lure relative to the sweep path of the magnet or grappling hook.
I always kept snorkel and mask on my boat to go in after lost rods. I've had decent luck playing frogman.
Either way, Good luck to you.

It was funny to me too after the bruises stoped hurting. You ever see a fat guy belly flop off a 4 foot wall into rip rap? I was sore for weeks. I made a post right after it happened, hoping someone would catch it, and enjoy it as much as I did.

You ever see a fat guy belly flop off a 4 foot wall into rip rap? Ouch! I jumped in a lake once, and landed off kilter on a rock with my left ankle, Snapped clean and I had to walk 2 miles home out of fear of calling Mom or Dad. LOL
