Thanks Jerry and Kurtis. I'll just borrow one then, and pay you for it if I lose it or mess it up. Can I troll with an Avet 30/2 with about 500yds of 130# braid, mounted on an Ugly stik all roller 80-130# class rod? That's now my only "big" outfit, which I normally use for bottom fishing/deep drop. It may not be ideal, but is it sufficient? i would think you should be more than covered,although not as fancy as the rig used to take the trolled tuna on tbb trip !! lol

This trip is going to be sloppy, no 2 ways about it, If we move it back by a day, It'll only be a little less sloppy, luckily the boat fishes well in rough seas.
maybe the roughness will stir them up a bit, it was flat on my last trip and it was tough to even buy a bite!!

I think if we move it back a day, sunday night will be great.  (based on the info from your link) but I agree, sat night will be snotty, as well as the day drops on sunday, but nothing any of us TFF tuna trip veterans haven't handled w/ ease in the past. Besides, we're in a big cat w/ a great captain. I've jigged tuna in 10 foot seas.  I aint skeered!  y'all better sack-up, tuna fishin aint for daisy-sniffers, pilgrim  Sure hope you get in, Grizz. you're fun to fish with!

How wet ya get will depend on the wind more than the waves unless we are under way. The boat will just roll with the waves on the drift.

go buy a cheap stearns rainsuit at walmart for the trip- throw it away after you get off the boat. it will stink. rubber boots is a must.. you dont want wet feet. take some duct tape and tape the bottom of the rainsuit legs towards the top of the rubber boots to keep you from having them trying to work their way down. keeps the legs from catching on the bottom of the boots and pulling your shorts down...

I own a full foul weather gear set: bibs, boots, jacket, everything and it will likely be staying at the dock unless the fcst changes
for the most part, I expect this to be a shorts and sandals trip. 58-76 range predicted here on the coast and likely a bit higher than that offshore, probably significantly higher at the floaters. The water temp is still in the mid 80's offshore so that will keep it pretty warm.
I personally like the sandals approach to shoes on these trips so that your feet always have a chance to dry but, everyone has a personal favorite shoe method. I will say this though, whatever you do, make sure your feet dry off regularly. Nothing worse than wet feet on a trip, they crack and hurt almost to the point of not being able to walk. Yep been there, done that on a trip a few years ago! it was miserable!!!
I will have a set of cheap frogtogs rolled up in the bag just in case it gets nasty but, im not expecting to need them. The boat was never tested on my last trip but, with the doors from the cabin opening to the stern of the boat instead of the sides and the restroom being inside the cabin I dont know why you would get very wet other than rain and that fcst is apparently clear!

nothing any of us TFF tuna trip veterans haven't

G-16's post says it all, daytime should be fine, if a bit windy, water brings the air temp to the water temps. Nights might be a bit cool if windy, nothing a Frogg Togg top won't handle just to block the wind. That and the 5 gallon bucket are definite "watch for's"..................love having TFF tuna rookies on board!!

Lets see we have "purple balls" "bad juju" "5 gallon buckets" "bring sharp knife and favorite drink" "small poppers in full stand up gear" “heifer dust” “fly fishing shark” "pulling shorts down" and I only have three maybe four days to figure out whats dangerous and what exactly the danger is? Hehe  We are getting the precoldfront rain here this morning. Finally found some spro swivels last night, did you guys know that when you live in a town of 350 its hard to find spro swivels?

My first trip last Dec. I wore coveralls and insulated rubber boots almost the entire trip ( I was on the back of the boat puking for eight hours with water a foot deep running back on me) then on the Feb/march trip I had on a light raincoat and sandals for a while and everyone else was bundled up, I hate to carry too much but I will probably have everything I own with me in the truck. The one nice thing about being covered up is that when you get all covered with blood and guts you can just pull off the top layer to lay down for some rest, I hate to get all my bedding nasty the first night and then have too sleep in it the rest of the trip.

Ok, now Im convinced im going to need to sacrifice a popper to the tuna gods. So tonight, Ill be tying a 5oz tuna hunter to my trout reel. One good hard cast should easily pop the 10lb test and send it flying off at least a hundred yds into the cow pasture next to my house. That ought to be close enough to "dust a heiffer" Im hoping that this will make peace, and give us a chance at em on the water this weekend seriously, who ordered the second wave of reinforced air? This is the front on friday, definetly weaker than they first thought  and this is what the reinforced air is supposed to do on sunday afternoon  Its looking like a snotty trip any way you slice it. Of course, this is only the second model run that this extra wind has been shown so maybe its just a flaw in the model, lets hope so! Mrbill Mrbill, We are up in the air on departure until tomorrow morning. What boat are you going to be on? I guess now I know the reason the weather is looking so bad. You tend to see how much the sea can dish out on a lot of your trips. You must have been mean to her in your younger years. Now she is paying you back  Good luck to you. Doesn't really look like a Sat departure would be any better than Friday to me, but I am not good at interpreting the forecasts either. Looks like 6-9 ft'ers for most of the time.
