I blew a bearinga while back and every since I have replaced it, the trailer will shake starting at about 58mph.

The tire isnt loose, so I was wondering do you think its possibly I didnt hammer the race in quite straight?

its a single axle carrying a 16ft bass boat.

jack up the trailer and put a block of wood as close as possible to the tire,,spin the tire and see if the distance between the block and tire is the same,,,

but it sounds like a tire is out of balance

an out of balance tire, will it show in this test, or are you seeing if the tire is warped by this test.

and thanks for the response, much appreciated.

it will show if the bearing are running true,, or if you have a lose wheel,,which i suspect,,,i get my tires balanced,,there are others that say it is a waste,,,a single axles trailer chances are your wheel is loose,,check the play,,hands at 12 and 6 see if you can shake the wheel,,,also it could be the other side,,,

I had this problem several months ago. Bought a new hub, installed it, and had a vibration problem.

Pulled the hub and found that the inner race had not been pressed completely into the hub. I drove it in with a brass punch and a hammer and have had no further problems.

Good luck.

I dont own a punch, what is a good makeshift device to hammer the races in there and make sure they are in there good?

Big old socket turned upside down and lite taps and rotate at 90 then 45 degree intervals. You should be able to see or feel when the race bottoms out.

I thouht I did, but it did rub a little bit when the old bearing went out and that might have caused it to get uneven. I will take a look, might just have to end up getting a new hub with bearings and everything pre-installed.

they are pretty cheap these days.

Trailerpart.com. Get a hub with a pre installed race and redo the wheel.
