cat man . i have been making mine without the exotic ingredients most sites recommend . just mix an egg (slowly as to not to make bubbles in it ) , then add spices to it ( anything like vanilla ,cayenne pepper, cinnamin etc .you can go ahead and add food coloring at this point ( red and yellow see to work for me but without it is good too ) get about a third cup each of flour and cornmeal and add to the egg stirring it with a table spoon .add equal amounts of c.m and flour to thicken once it gets stiffer i just go ahead and use my hands to knead it....pinch a small pieces and roll it in your hands if its sticks to your hands its not stiff enough .... boil some water in a pot and let them boil 5-8 minutes ( most sites i have seen recommend 2 minutes )if you dont boil this recipe at least 5 minutes they are still soft .remove from water and set towel or paper towels to dry . try to make these pretty small because they swell about 10 percent .i have been trying store bought boilees and eveytime i have been blanked . recently i have been hauling using my own but cutting them in half . today i went ahead and used 2 halves of red ones and yellow ones and caught some huge fish . they will also catch cats

catfishman, I would start simple if I were you.

Two cans of Sweetcorn - use a size 6 or 8 hook, 8 - 12 pound test, carolina-rig with 1/2 oz - 2 oz weight (depending on how far you think you need to cast, etc.).

Throw the contents of one of the cans out where you think the carp are, and wait for about 1/2 hour. Then put 3-4 kernals of corn on the hook, making sure you leave the point free. Cast it to where you chummed the can of corn, loosen your drag (or use a baitclicker if you have it) and wait. If you don't see any signs of fish (mudding, breaching, etc) then wait. If you see signs, but somewhere else, go there and repeat.

Some like using breadballs as well. These are both good options and much simpler than trying to make your own boilies right off the start, IMO.
