ErickC great thread! I've been fishing for while and still consider myself quite green at it.
We're hitting up Castroville Regional tomorrow morning, hopefully the kids can catch a few! Millers Pond is decent, but can get crowded and trashy. That river that runs under 90 runs through part of Lackland too, we used to fish that and pulled some good cats out of there - you can see the bass, but they're smart! Thats the Medio creek since I work on lackland I get more access to it and it has a ton of fish but tricky at times because of the small size and lots of trees, ect in it but some of the nicest colored bluegil/pumkin seed, rio grande chiliads (SP) good sized cats up to 4-5lbs. I go for the bass and there are some solid 13-15" in there that can fight and normally break my 4lb line with ease if I go 6lb then its easier to bring them in. Great hidden secret

Have you ever tried the popping cork called The Launcher. You can cast one a mile - well, OK 100 yards or so, but it beats wading during the winter. You can get the Launchers from www.flexcoat.com

Tried Miller's pond last friday with no luck. Used trout bites, rooster tails and corn kernels at all depths and different places. Anybody know if they stocked the trout yet? This post has been a great source of info.

Thanks Mark,
I also emailed TPWD and they confirmed the stocking. They also said that the trout stocked here are bigger than a lot of other places and there aren't as many released per stocking. The day I went(last Friday)was the pretty cold and cloudy, so I will try again this week. They said there is another truck coming around noon on the 16th or 17th for the second round of stocking.

Good luck out there. Don't forget to post a report with pics. haha. I didn't have a chance to go down to millers this past weekend. I might try this week for some tout action. I am not sure where they will be holding up though. I figured it would be by moving water, but millers doesn't move or have a current that i can see.
Thanks for the info Valley Girl. I called the Alamo River Resort up. Its $15 carload. The lady said you can pile em in lol. You can use a campsite that they have there. And you have to leave by dark. She says there are no lights down there so its dangerous to be out after dark. As far as fishing goes she said some people do really well and some get skunked. She said she sees fish caught quite a bit though.

went out to Miller's and the only fish i saw that was alive was being gulped down by a cormorant. It was pretty far away, but looked like a trout. this bird caught the fish right in the middle of the lake, and I would be willing to bet that the fish are hold up right at the bottom where the water is coldest.

Welcome to the TFF..lots of great people here & most are willing to share their fishing knowledge. I live in Universal City & have fished the SA area & the coast for years. Now, I fish calaveras most of the time...it's close & has a lot of educated fish in it. Buy & learn to use a castnet, fresh shad & small live tilapia can't be beat. Liver works good for channel cats, but is hard to cast. I would go down toward the dam & fish the points. It's popular, so you might have to fish the points up the lake toward the powerlines. Most people are more then willing to give you pointers, so don't hesitate to ask. Calaveras is great fishing, but only 10% catch all the fish...experience ! Here is one of the reds I caught a few days ago. Roger Nah its easy. The fish have not seen every lure known to man out there. There is still one they have not seen hope you find it..LOL

Went to Miller's pond today from 1030 from 130. Caught two on silver superdupers, two on gold superduper, and one on berkley power bait on the bottom. Started out slow but picked up from noon to one then died off again. I was on the bank on the right side of the pond as you look at it from the parking lot.
