This is the second trailer that I have had this same tire issue with. I really don't understand it.

I have a 2005 Nitro dual axel trailer... I am continuouly putting tires on it. Radials. They all wear out on the OUTSIDE HALF of the tread, way ahead of the inside half of the tread. I am left with tires that have reasonably good tread on the inside, but none on the outside. The tires that came on the trailer wore this same way.

To get even wear, I would have to have the tires dismounted and turned around backards on the rims to wear the other side... so standard rotating is not the solution...

I drive 100 miles round trip to the lake on average 3 to 4 times a week.... the cost of the tires is making me crazy... it seems I buy a whole new set every year to two years.... but one at a time .... as diffrent wheels wear out at different rates.

This may not seem like much of an issue, but it burns me up that the tires are "half good" when I have to get new ones.

I just don't understand why they wear the way they do. Are there any suggestions on how to remedy the wear problem?

If you are running goodyear marathons, bump the air presure up to 60 pounds. The rotating would definatly help. You are towing that trailer 400 miles a week so the tires are not going to last to long.

Are your axles in line properly ,just a thought

I would:

1) stay on top of tire pressure. If you're towing over 65 mph then bump the psi 10% over max. This is a Goodyear suggestion.

2) take your trailer to a good axle shop and have them check alignment of the axles to the trailer. It's not uncommon for for axles or trailers to be out of square.

3) regardless of remaining tread you should probably change tires every 5 years. Use the date code on the tire. When buying new tires check the date code to insure that you're not buying tires that sat on a shelf for 3 years.

First, how do you get to fish 3-4 times a week.......I'm jealous.
Second, as other have said, check air pressure and if that doesn't fix it an axle is out of alignment.

My tire pressure was low... but, I think I have one of the axles out of line... I need to find some place in Burleson or Cleburne who will work on it... Just don't know any off hand that work on boat trailers.

Save gas and just move to the lake like I did. Now I just wear out the riding lawn mowers going to the boat dock. LOL

Mine wear on the inside and outside but probably twice as fast on the inside. If the wear is even it is more of an air pressure issue. I have Carlisle bias ply (non-radials) and try to keep 45-50 psi in them. I have found that it does not take long on low pressures to develop the inside outside pattern. I figure that my or axle / spindles are slightly bent. I can understand a bent axle causing inside wear but outside wear is kind of strange. If your axle is out of alignment (dog tracking) then you should see opposite rather than consistent wear patterns.
