I just bought a Reese drop-down so my trailer will ride level.

Question...is there a better way to secure the drop-down to the hitch?

All I got in the "kit" was an "L" shaped piece of round steel with "keeper pin".

Can I get a case hardened bolt and put through there, cinch it down real good in order to make it more theft proof?

With the pin all you have to do is pull it and the drop-down slides right off.

Those things are expensive!

Thanks for input.

You can get a locking pin any where from Academy, BPS, Cabelas, Wally world or Lowes, Home Depot for that fact. The pin is plenty hard enough just get one with a good lockset. Good luck.

Edit Reason: spell check isn't working

I use a mig welder and "tack both the "stinger" , and pin.(dont want a thief to pull pin and leave me pulling on a tack weld).
keeps the thief away ,( they dont usually have a 3" grinder with them ) ... and no noise when not pulling.

down side is you have to watch your shin bone

The locking pin is a good solution if you want to tow trailers with different hitch heights. One of the problems with receiver hitchs is that thiefs can take your trailer and ball mount if you just use the pin.

By a locking pin at Walmart or Academy.

Why not remove it when not in use. That way an un-suspecting pedestrian will not walk into it.
