I probably had the best fishing day on the water ever for a day I'd call "frustrating"

Caught 7 fish early (2 on Rage Tail shad, 3 on popper, 2 trolling a crankbait), then went to the discharge and fished out the rest of my day amongst non-stop surfacing fish.

Fish were EVERYWHERE and wouldn't hit ANYTHING. I did end up catching 20 or so, so if I wasn't watching fish school all day would be a GREAT day. Most of the fish I caught out of the schooling bass were good fish too. I ended the day with 2 fish around 5, at least 10 over 3, and the rest 1-2 pounders.

Overall a great, albeit frustrating day to be on the water. I fished from daylight till about 1:30 PM fwiw.

Here's the big fish of the day:

How did you get them to hit? I've had similar experience sitting in the middle of some serious Bastrop schoolies action, but unable to get them interested. I suspect the school action is some kind of mating behavior. After all, what could possibly be more important than eating?

I got most of the schoolies on a 4.5" H2O Express swimbait. Also, I tended to do better on the shallower schoolies (some in less than 2' of water). The bigger fish seemed to be the ones in the shallows too.

I could get small ones to bite a popper, but every fish on that swimbait was 2+. I hung one that probably was over 6, but she didn't stay buttoned.
