What's is the better fighting fish?
A carp or buffalo?
I couldnt give her a quality answer so,through your experience,
which was the better fighting fish?

Its going to be a lot of fun to find out

a 27.5lb male carp is technically the best fighter.

Buffs are funny. One fish might not fight at all then the next will totally rip some drag.

Like at Austin the big boys don't tend to pull as well as a 40something. Just like at Grapevine you might pull in a 20something lb buff that fights like a log or a 15 pounder that will try to break you off with multiple powerful runs.

So it's hard to say buffs because they are so inconsistent yet saying that, the best pull I've had was from a 40 something buff.

Carp are more consistently better pullers but if you hook a pissed off buffalo, be ready for the best ride of your life.

For the most part, a carp is the better fighter. That being said, I have had buffs that could go toe-to-toe with a carp any day. The 30 pounder from the Marina at Hubbard comes to mind...

same here depends on what mood the fish is in.

Carp, cuz buffalo don't count

I have A 45lb Buff & 43lb Common under my belt now & the both felt about the the same. The Buff was hooked much farther out than the carp so it took allot more time to drag it in.

+1, i have had 5 lbs carp fight harder than a 10lb carp, just depends on the fish I guess

With the real big carp its the same
All these fat 40lbs plus carp do is just shake with there heads a bit..its the dead weight that pulls the rod down
The best fighting carp are the big 40inch plus male carp on the river that are used to fight strong currents
If you hook them you realy dont know what happens to your tackel..its amazing

for me........anytime a buff comes in fairly easy it's only because he is getting ready to kick your arse after he's on the landing matt!...lol

I know what you mean..if I catch a good one at night I sack them up until first light to photograph them
So when its time to do that they are fresh..They realy have a KICK in them those big carp lol

Haven't hooked a Buffalo yet that I know of. I have caught a lot of carp. I can tell you that carp fight good. If I was to guess I'd answer Carp due to there longer bodies. In my experiance I think the longer the fish usually the better the fight.

Its about the shape of the carp to
A fat female carp of say 3feet might be heavier but dont fight
And a slim torpedo shape male fish of the same lenght is fighting much harder

I think the size of the tail is important, too. I've seen carp with much bigger tails than other carp of the same size; I suspect they'd fight harder, too.

You right brett I think the fat female carp dont moove around much..they just stay around a mussel bed and eat
They dont have big fins and tail because of this

The male carp do move a lot and they have wider more musculer bodies and because of this they have much bigger fins and tails

Utlimately - buffalo.

Carp are very intelligent and naturally skittish. They tend to react to being hooked straight away. This is why a bolt rig is named such. With carp the fight begins before you even touch the rod and they give it everything they have. They are also longer and slimmer, as many have already stated.

Buffallo are probably not as intelligent and I don't think they have to much in their natural environment to be skittish about. They often act like they dont know what is going on. Also, their thick lips might not be as sensitive as a carp's. Think about how often a carp's lips will bleed and how seldom a buffalos lips will bleed. Often, buffalo don't put up a fight until they get uncomfortably close to the bank and then they panic.

However, you will hook into the occasional buffalo that knows he is in trouble from the get go and the fight is on. They will thrash at the waters surface and even jump.

Last spring Chris and I were fishing adjacent swims at Emma. Chris had a buffalo that was jumping and he kept saying "It's jumping like a bass!" Half an hour later I hooked into a fish that was fighting till no end. I kept saying "I have on a 30 lb carp!" It turned out to be a 20 lb buffalo.

Buffalo are usually to fat to make rapid turns. This is why they usually pull straight out rather than change directions in the blink of an eye like carp.

Although I think that carp are more intelligent I think that buffalo are harder to catch because they don't always bolt, they don't usually cruise when they feed, and their mouth's are oriented downward.

I am just happy Jason thinks of me everytime there is a thread like this.

I wonder if buffalo that have been caught before are the ones that fight the hardest (because they recognize what's going on and don't want to be caught again). Or possibly those that have been caught before now realize that "resistance is futile," so they just lay over and allow themselves to be dragged in.

To be fair, I like your tats. I just think you need one of a buffalo.
